Every season, a new batch of waifus are released out into the wild jungle known as the Internet. My name is Snooze, and I’m the latest in-the-field researcher graduating from Doujins University. My job is to get in deep, observe these waifus in their natural habitats, and determine based on the evidence which will be good contenders for waifu of the season. Which will receive a ton of doujins? Which have interesting personalities? Which are overhyped, and which are underappreciated? It’s time to find out, on The Waifu Hunt.

Seira J. Loyard - Noblesse

So far Seira has displayed a classic case of Kuugere Syndrome. She doesn’t say much, or do much… or do anything so far but the anime is still young. The nerdy sidekick has shown interest in her which may lead to her opening up down the road. Her glaring red eyes and moon white hair do well to create a sort of vampiric vibe to her so she may perform well among the emo crowds. However with the data I have to go with, I’m not seeing anything major in terms of waifu potential here.

Literally Everyone - When They Cry 2020

I don’t see a single one of these girls becoming a prominent waifu for two mains reasons. One, these characters are nothing new in the world of anime. They’ve been around for a while and have never exactly been super popular or frequently lewded. Which is probably for the best all things considered. Second, nobody really wants their waifu to be a crazy girl who scratches her neck until it bleeds. I’m sure in some edgy circles there are people who talk about “if I could just find a girl like Rena, she’d understand me and my demons” when in reality if they found a girl like Rena they’d be in a fucking grave.

Nobara Kugisaki - Jujutsu Kaisen

Ladies and gentlemen this is a strong contender right here. Her character design isn’t anything extravagant or groundbreaking, but in a very short amount of time she’s been shown to be quite versatile. While she may have a lot of confidence and a snarky personality to boot, it’s been demonstrated that she’ll compliment others and respect them when it’s time to get serious. The writers aren’t afraid to show her in a comedic light in some short funny scenes as well. Overall I’d say she’s the most well-rounded girl here having already displayed a funny, sad, confident, and serious side to her. Plus this anime is gaining popularity... and I think we have some excellent doujin potential here.

Doctor - Akudama Drive

For those seeking a more mature woman, you may have arrived. Doctor is a famous criminal who isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty, or bloody for that matter. Her design leaves no room for debate that she’s one of the more stacked females in this season and she isn’t afraid to use them to her advantage. All in all if you have a thing for medical stuff or a big mommy fetish I see no escape from having this be your waifu. The lewd factor here is off the damn charts, the only way I don’t see people lewding her enough is simply due to the anime’s lack of popularity. I myself was almost guilty of missing it, but Akudama Drive is shaping up to be quite the interesting watch and I’m happy I went back and caught up to it on Kinky’s recommendation. 

Hiiragi Nana - Munou na Nana

Don’t be fooled by her generic design, it’s time to put your glasses on because a big brain bitch has entered the building. Likely the most cunning out of all the girls [SPOILER AHEAD FOR EPISODE 1 WATCH THIS SHIT IF YOU HAVEN’T], her deductive reasoning, ruthless manipulation skills, and willingness to kill would normally land her a spot right next to one of the Higurashi girls in the “barely lewded” zone, however she’s doing it for what she believes is the greater good. Since she only kills those with special powers that means she’d be totally down to date a regular gentleman like myself and be able to act normal (Citation needed). If you’re one of those people who claim to be attracted to intelligence the most, here ya go.

From what I’ve seen so far I’m feeling the biggest potential from Nobara. Obviously I can’t cover every single girl who might happen to become a big waifu this season, but I think this crop has some solid contenders. It’s incredibly hard to talk about girls in anime I don’t watch too, like Tonikaku Kawaii. Seems some people like that girl alright. That’s where you guys can come in and share your findings.
