Resident Evil 4 VR Censors Lewd Content & Dialogue
By Yung Namahage • 2 years ago

You don't need me to tell you just how iconic Resident Evil 4 is. Hell, at this point I'd say it's overshadowed even the original Resident Evil as the series' most well-known entry, with ports on more systems than most people can even name.

The latest version was developed by Capcom in collaboration with Armature and Oculus Studios for the Oculus Quest, bringing players to a whole new level of immersion as they shoot Spanish farmers and rescue the president's daughter in virtual reality. But as with anything popular enough to still have a loyal fandom 16 years after its initial release, fans have memorized every minor detail and line of dialogue from the game, meaning any kind of change from the original will be picked up before long.

Facebook, the parent company of Oculus, said the VR release includes "select changes to in-game dialogue and animations that we believe will update Resident Evil 4 for a modern audience." These changes mostly concern Ashley, since the player is no longer able to peek up her skirt in game and or in certain cutscenes like you could in the original. Furthermore, Luis' line about her "ballistics," her invitation to Leon for some "overtime" at the end and Leon hitting on Hunnigan have also been cut.

Fans also aren't happy about the absence of Mercenaries mode and Ada's Seperate Ways campaign after beating the main story. While I can imagine those modes might eventually make it into the VR version as part of an update or DLC, the same can't be said for Ashley's ass.

What do you guys think? Have you played RE4 in VR yet? Are they disrespecting the original, or is this a small sacrifice to play one of Capcom's greatest games like never before? Let us know below!
