King of Fighters Gets a Dating Sim, But Don't Get Your Hopes Up
By Yung Namahage • 4 years ago

Remember last year's SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy? Not content with bringing together the most popular girls from Dragon GalWorld Heroes and of course, King of Fighters, SNK just said fuck it and threw in a crossdressing Iori Yagami (for the trap lovers) and a gender-flipped, busty version of one of the most iconic male Fatal Fury/King of Fighters characters, Terry Bogard. The reasons for doing so should be obvious.

It seems that SNK have realised that by focusing on that important horny male fighting game fan demographic they potentially excluded other groups. So to remedy that, they've partnered with Victor Entertainment to bring us the antithesis of SNK Heroines: a mobile game calledThe King of Fighters for Girls. Yes, that's the name they went for.

As the name implies, this is catered toward the more casual female fans of the series who like the buff boys but can do without the i-frames and EX moves. In here, you play as a woman who suddenly finds herself homeless and jobless. She eventually ends up becoming a live-in manager for the player's favorite character, supporting them as they compete in the King of Fighters tournament. All the big name brawlers are here and looking prettier than ever, thanks to artist Kuren: Ryo Sakazaki, Kyo Kusanagi, Terry Bogard (who has a penis again) and a bunch of new bishonen boys named Yomi and Nagi.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the game there won't be any other female characters. Then again, it's hard to complain when you're not exactly the target audience for this kind of thing. She's a far cry from the likes of Mai Shiranui but at least the nameless, voiceless protagonist is kinda cute. It's also worth noting that this is being intended as a multimedia project, so maybe we'll have a manga or anime spinoff some point down the line.

If you're feeling missed out and absolutely have to play a dating sim with Mai and other KoF waifus, then fear not: SNK created a series exclusive to Japan called Days of Memories, some of which are aimed at men and some are for women, but they all let you fall in love with your fighter of choice. Or you could cut right to the chase and check out one of our 81 King of Fighters doujins and CG Galleries. I know which one I'd rather do.

The King of Fighters for Girls is stated to be released this summer in Japan, with no plans for localisation announced so far. More information is available on the website here.
