Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time Delayed Indefinitely
By Yung Namahage • 3 years ago

It's been over seven years since we last saw the likes of Shinji, Rei, Asuka, Mari and Kaworu in Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo, and shit was getting weird. We've waited a long time to see how the final installment of the Rebuild of Evangelion quadrilogy wraps things up, but now we'll sadly have to wait a little longer.

Studio Khara announced on Twitter that the upcoming movie's intended theatrical release date of January 23 will not be going forward as planned after 11 prefectures of Japan entered a state of emergency due to COVID-19. The film was delayed before this, with an original release date scheduled for June 27 of last year. The theme song, One Last Kiss by Hikaru Utada, was also meant for release on January 23 but it has also been delayed. A new release date for both the movie and the song are still to be announced.

The state of emergency orders theaters to close at 8pm and limit their audiences to half their max capacity, so it's kinda understandable why they decided to delay it when you take into consideration that it's the last movie in a long-running franchise with millions of loyal fans, and a momentous occasion like that deserves to be experienced on the big screen instead of thrown out on streaming services. Or maybe they're just fucking with their fans again, like when they wanted people to stop making lewds of their characters

Are you guys looking forward to Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time? Do you think delaying it was the right move? Drop your thoughts in the comments!
