New Details for Promare - Trigger's Upcoming Movie
By Yung Namahage • 5 years ago

The creative forces behind Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill's next project isn't another traditional anime series, but no doubt it'll be just as crazy.

Director Hiroyuki Imaishi and writer Kazuki Nakashima's third collaboration, Promare, focuses on hotheaded, spiky blue-haired Kamin-sorry, Galo Thymos, a young member of the Burning Rescue Fire Department, facing off against a fiery breed of space mutants known as Mad Burnish, using a special type of mecha known as "Matoi-Tech" (sound familiar?) Aside from the cast, a new trailer has been released, which you can check below.

The cast announced so far seems pretty solid, containing a few who've had more live action roles than voice roles in anime, plus some alumni of Imaishi and Nakashima's previous works:

Kenichi Matsuyama (L from the Japanese live action Death Note movies) as Galo Thymos

Taichi Saotome (Renji Abarai from live action Bleach) as Lio Fotia

Masato Sakai as (Taira no Shigemori from Sukiyaki Western Django) Kray Foresight

Ayane Sakura (Ochako Uraraka from My Hero Academia) as Aina Ardebit

Hiroyuki Yoshino (Houka Inumuta from Kill la Kill) as Remi Puguna

Tetsu Inada (Ira Gamagoori from Kill la Kill) as Varys Truss

Mayumi Shintani (Nonon Jakuzure from Kill la Kill) as Lucia Fex,

Rikiya Koyama (Coyote Starrk from Bleach) as Ignis Ex

Ami Koshimizu (Ryuko Matoi from Kill la Kill) as Ellis Ardebit

Taiten Kusonoki (Red Eye from Assassination Classroom) as Vulcan Hastus

Nobuyuki Hiyama (Uzu Sanageyama from Kill la Kill) as Gera

Katsuyuki Konishi (Kamina from Gurren Lagann) as Mace

Imaishi and Nakashima have confirmed that the movie will be similar in tone to their previous works, so it'll be interesting to see how their signature blend of awesome escalation works when distilled into a single feature film as opposed to a <20 episode series.

Promare debuts in theatres in Japan sometime this May. Are you a fan of the creators' previous works? Does that make you more hype for their new movie? Drop your thoughts in the comments.
