Is Peter Grill and the Philosopher's Time the Next Big Ecchi Series?

I have to admit, while I remember hearing about Peter Grill and the Philosopher's Time a few weeks ago, I didn't think much of it. Maybe the name failed to draw me in, sounding more like a Harry Potter self-insert fanfic than an anime. But after the first episode aired a couple days ago I found out that it was essentially a monster girl harem anime, so I got in on that in hopes that it could fill a Monster Musume-shaped hole.

The premise of Peter Grill is that the eponymous hero wins a fighting tournament, and is crowned the world's strongest man. But this earns him a fanclub of horny females of various fantasy races that want his seed for themselves so they can produce equally strong offspring. Poor Pete wants to keep himself for his naive fiancee, but a pair of lusty ogre sisters are determined to have him for themselves. And that's only the first episode!

It's kinda like a reverse Interspecies Reviewers where the protagonist is trying to avoid having sex with mongirls, but that doesn't stop it from having a ton of fanservice. It might be heavily censored for now but an extended "Great Philosopher" version will air on HiDive starting this Friday that shows a little more; just don't expect it to go all the way. The animation is great and the character designs are good for the most part, although I will say that the monster girls are kinda lacking for me, since I prefer my monster girls to be on the more monstrous side instead of just looking like regular humans with horns or different shaped ears, but I'd say it's still worth a watch. The show is still in its early days, and it might even become the next big ecchi hit with its later episodes. Here's a trailer for those unaware:

If you're interested, you can stream Peter Grill and the Philosopher's Time on Crunchyroll or HiDive. Have you seen the first episode? What do you think so far? Do you think the series will catch on? Drop your thoughts below!

... So it's the exact same wish-fulfillment ecchi bullshit we've been getting for the last 12 straight years now, with a limp dick MC who has women throwing themselves at him left-right-and-center but who refuses to have sex with them, yet who's also too much of a spineless coward to ask his crush out on a date. No wonder Japan's in a population crisis if this is a "relatable" character archetype.

I've personally been sick of /e/ titles trying to pass as /H/.

I'm getting the sense that these companies really wanna "go all the way." My reaction: "Why don't they JUST FUCKING DO IT??!!!ELEVEN. WHAT'S STOPPING YOU??!! Pink Pine, Poro/Collab Works, Queen Bee, Majin Label, et cetera! LET'S FUCKING GO! Prove me wrong that the Japanese have no spine."

I don't know why, but once I read about the main character's "naive fiancee", I remembered this line from Jarhead: "Do you you have a girlfriend? Well, guess again motherfucker, Jody's banging her right now!"

This one flew in under my radar, thanks Yung! I think the ogre women could use more muscle mass, but they'll do.
