Giant Insect Rape Manga Also Gets Live-Action Treatment
By Yung Namahage • 4 years ago

A live-action Dragon Ball might make sense, but never in a million years would I expect this particular manga to make the jump to 3D.

Kyochou Rettou, or The Island of Giant Insects, is one of those series that tells you exactly what it is on the tin. High-schoolers crash on a remote island, find out they're surrounded by an ungodly amount of massive bugs, and try to survive. Cue extremely brutal death & rape scenes and a good dash of fanservice. It's pure schlock, but the way it embraces its sheer B movie setup is kinda endearing to me for some reason.

After an OVA and crowdfunded anime series, the manga is now moving to live-action territory thanks to Noboru Iguchi, director of hits like Mutant Girls SquadGothic Lolita Battle BearMachine GirlZombie Ass andTomie Unlimited. Jokes aside, I love the campy weird shit from what I've seen of Iguchi's other works so I'm confident he could pull off adapting this series. But it might stray a little from the source material; the PV only shows protagonist Mutsumi and her bespectacled friend Chitose and has no mention of any other characters. But that freakishly large ant and plenty of cleavage shots mean it at least gets the vibe of the manga right. Check it out for yourself:

We don't even know as of yet if it's a full-length feature or a short film, but we do know that Iguchi himself will be showing the movie at the Atami Kaiju Film Festival next week. Hopefully it'll get a wider release before long.
