Back Street Girls Return in Live Action Series
By Yung Namahage • 5 years ago

You may have heard of Jazmine Gyuh's comedy manga Back Street Girls. If you haven't, the basic premise is that a trio of Yakuza botch an important job, and are made to go through sex change operations in Thailand (of course) and start a career as idols to make back the hard-earned Yen they cost their patriarch. Not only was it adapted into an anime last year, but a live action movie is set to release in Japan next February.

If you can't get enough of these former gangsters-turned-pop sensations, then you're in luck: a live action TV series will premiere in February, just a couple of weeks after the movie.

Interestingly, director Keinosuke Hara will be working on the series as well as the movie, as is writer Hidehiro Ito. The main cast from the movie will also be returning, creating a sense of continuity and consistency that a lot of TV follow-ups to movies lack.

Are you already a fan of the series? Will you be looking forward to the new movie or series? Drop your thoughts in the comments.
