Steam Continues To Flip-Flop On Adult Games
By WakeUpSnooze • 4 years ago

Oh, you! Steam is back at it again as the war between what lewdness should be allowed and what shouldn’t be rages on. Honestly, I can’t even keep up anymore. I heard Steam was going to be allowing adult games a long time ago. In fact, Taimanin Asagi was going to be put on the platform and that shit contains hella rape. Then next thing I know it got cancelled and everyone said “oops, nevermind”. To be honest, at this point I have no idea what Steam’s actual policy for sexual games is, and they don’t appear to either.

About a month ago I wrote an article stating that Kissing Therapy was going to be released on Steam. I was pretty excited because A)it’s made by Outbreak Games, the developers behind Snow Daze, and B)it’s fucking yuri which is my #1 go-to tag. Not to mention the unique, Western art style was a nice break from the typical anime art you see every single day while investigating porn games for this site. Well, it appears I wrote that article for no reason. Earlier this week, Steam denied the game’s launch. The developers put out a tweet suggesting that despite the game’s setting of a community college, Steam hates school settings in general for sex games and that may be what prevented the launch.

Rare image of Steam's disgusted face when looking at adult games.

Luckily, the game and its updates were still released fine and dandy on Patreon and Itch. The real story here is the principle. Is the Steam reviewal process for games down to not even bothering to comprehend what’s going on in the details? Is it too dangerous to allow creators to even have a school setting in fear that they’ll abuse it? I certainly don’t think so. But since I work at a doujin site, there’s definitely some bias in there.

Will I ever wrap my head around Steam’s policy on games with adult content? Do you think Steam should have strict restrictions on these types of games? Write me in the comments below (but not if you’re writing from a school setting or I’ll ban you).
