The Battle Angel Alita Live Action Movie is Coming... And The Main-Stream Media is Horrified

In 2003 James Cameron, creator of the world's all-time highest grossing film, Titanic (1997), developed what he called 'stereoscopic 3D Digital Filming; if you've seen any movie in 3D in the past decade, chances are it was filmed using Cameron's technology.

In June 2005, Cameron announced he was working on two new projects: "Project 880", which turned into the billion-dollar film Avatar, and a live-action adaptation of the 1990 manga-series, Battle Angel Alita by Yukito Kishiro, both of which were planned to be triologies. Avatar was released in 2009, and became a billion-dollar blockbuster. Alita: Battle Angel finally entered production in 2016, with Robert Rodriguez directing and Cameron producing.

But the most radical part of the movie? Having an entirely 3D-rendered main-character interacting with real-life actors. Worse yet, Alita, the main character, has anime-ish huge eyes, perhaps to remind us that she isn't quite human, or to remind us that this movie is still based on an anime. The main-stream reaction so far to Cameron's stylistic choice has been quite negative. With a $200 million budget on the line, and based on such a small niche-franchise, it's unlikely the movie will ever be commercially successful.

With horrible anime movie adaptation like Dragonball: Evolution and controversial ones like Ghost in the Shell, it makes you wonder if this will finally be the one to pleases both the fans of the original and the people coming in blind. At least with the story being based in the United States, we don’t have to worry about white washing...right?

Here’s a brief summary of the movie:

Set in the 26th century, Alita tells of a female cyborg (Salazar) that is discovered in a scrapyard by a scientist. With no memory of her previous life except her deadly martial-arts training, the woman becomes a bounty hunter, tracking down criminals. The action-adventure story is meant to serve as a backdrop to themes of self-discovery and the search for love.

Will Alita: Battle Angel be the movie adaptation that saves all anime movie adaptation, only time will tell. (#NextKillLaKill) If not, we still have the live action .Your Name to save us...maybe?

What are your thoughts on the movie? Do you think it look bad or good? Are you hype for it? Do her large anime eyes turn you on? Tell us in the comments below.

Battle angel is one of like 3 mangas I actually like, so even if this turns into a garbage fire, I am a little excited to see how it turns out. Though I will say that there is going to be a huge missed opportunity if they do not utilize 70's hard rock for the soundtrack, as the amount of musical references is almost jojo Tier. Hell it got me into Blue Oyster cult with Desty Nova and Zapan.

Super excited. Huge fan of the manga. That being said expectations are very low , can't wait for mainstream to eat this alive with a 5/10 rating. Probally gonna produce alota new fags , another thing I fear.

Who is this for? I love the manga, but never felt like a live-action adaptation would work well.

The eyes are uncanny and look creepy on a normal human-structured face. The look is going to turn off a great number of people and will be a stain on the entire venture. That choice was a huge mistake that will cost them millions of box office dollars.

That said, the movie does look decent. Rodriguez and Cameron are competent filmmakers, so I'm sure the movie will have a cult following.

That and likely to snap suspension of disbelief in half. I get it, but that doesn't exactly means it looks good or would be a good idea.

I just want the massive violence and gore. Bedroom eyes aside, they're a plus.

This movie, or at least the trailer, are like a master class in the uncanny valley. I wouldn't call those "fuck me" eyes, I'd call them "the creepiest doll on the old lady's shelf" eyes.

i for one love how she looks think they should have found ways to make other characters in this look like Manga counterparts Ido and Desty Nova so they could be a bit more faithful to source material but on the other hand that could mean waiting even longer for development of a film that would cost even more to produce.

The mass media said that Titanic was going to be a fiasco and that they wouldn’t even get their budget money back Cameron proved them wrong.
