Being Judged For Doing Girly Things

Were you ever into something, but learned that it was something that only girls did, or maybe just mostly girls were into? Well I know I had that problem when I watched anime at a young age and wanted to straighten my hair so I could look more like them. Me being black and a boy, that shit didn’t slide in the hoods XD. My mom was against it at first, but once I was in high school and a less ghetto area, I was able to give it a try. Which, I got called gay XD but I was hell of alot more happy doing something I wanted to, instead of being afraid to do it cause of gender standards. That’s what our main character Jumpei in Dance Dance Danseur is struggling with.

Jumpei saw ballet at a young age, and wanted to pick it up. But once he got into it, he learned from his dad and his male classmates that ballet was something for girls, and not for boys. It sucks for him, but that’s life. We label things as for boys and girls, which can easily make things hard to enjoy if you’re afraid of judgment. Luckily, as time has passed, we’ve slowly grown out of that, like how skinny jeans and dying your hair was a girl thing to do, but now you see every guy and male YouTuber doing it.

I dare you to say that this man with the lion tattoo is a bitch for doing ballet.

This is another show I’m enjoying after just one episode. I don’t think I’ll love it as much as the Spy x Family, and I don’t think it’s going to be trending on Twitter like Spy x Family. But it’s def a show that if you’re interested in drama, dancing, and guys doing girly things, you should pick it up.

Have you ever done anything that was considered girly? Are you afraid of getting judged for the things you like? Have you watched Dance Dance Danseur? Tell us in the comments.

Yes, I've done quite a bit that used to be seen and judged as such. Learned gymnastics and dancing as a side to martial arts, grandfather encouraged it since it helped. Also learned to do a ton of things from grandma which seen as "girly" such as sewing, weaving, crocheting, etc. There used to be a ton of things to do around the house that needed extra hands, and most of the kids were boys.

I have been, and honestly people that judge for this shit can get fucked. Imagine reeing over people enjoying what they do because it gives them happiness but it doesn't fit the norms of what you're supposed to do.

Well... Is wearing pink consider girly? I had a very nice pink t-shirt that i just love to wear. I wore it out, and I just can't find another. Oh, I can't see ballet as girly, given there are male ballet dancers. Makes no sense IMO to say ballet is girly.

I have, but I'm not going to tell you. Also, how exactly is ballet all that girly when male ballet dancers are a thing? Or are they not a thing in Japan?

This is the most wholesome comment section I’ve ever seen on here. As a male ballet dancer myself, I am pleased. Keep being yourself, guys.

The age old proverb, if they arent hurting somone then why the FUCK do you care? Is your life that boring that you need to shit on somone elses? Dont just touch grass, eat it.

This isn't new, honestly. I recall a manga several years ago about a guy who loves sewing, but hides it because he's got a very macho image to maintain. His rival meanwhile adores makeup, but likewise keeps that side of him hidden to protect his personally, this doesn't sound like it interests me at all.

Can't say that I have as crazy as it sounds. I can honestly say that I probably would not feel embarrassed but yet again I've only ever done dude based things so there.

i am more incline to judge on how much obsesi they are on weird hobbie. do you judge when you found a guy working at a doll compagnie, at the fact the he also has a huge collection of doll at his house or when he wear a pink tutu and a tiara and play tea party with his doll.
