Patreon Moves To Control What Lewd Artists Can Do... On Other Sites???
By WakeUpSnooze • 3 years ago

What’s up guys it’s Snooze back at ya again with another lewd artist with their livelihood in danger. Not exactly, but it could have been if Slugbox wasn’t smart and didn’t take some proactive steps to move his income stream over to SubscribeStar. Recently Patreon has come under fire for some elements of their terms of service. According to Slugbox, a pretty popular artist with around 200k followers on Twitter, misinformation about the terms is rampant and people are focusing on the wrong things. I’ll let you read some screenshots from his own words so you can get some context.

In essence, Patreon is trying to say it can dictate what creators do outside of the website as if you were an employee of the site. All of the control, but none of the payroll that a real employer has to supply since that comes from the Patrons. God forbid an artist ever has something Daddy Patreon doesn’t like on an entirely different platform, I could take a wild stab at how that would go over. The level of user control that Slugbox is describing is definitely scary and hopefully won’t be a precedent that Patreon is allowed to get fully established. Many artists are already leaving the ship and searching for other platforms like the previously mentioned SubscribeStar. Slug himself has announced that his Patreon will be closing soon. As an outsider looking in you never want to give too much of an opinion, but I hope that other lewd artists take note of the situation and act accordingly. In my own article about YouTube banning us, I vowed to pay more attention to events like this so hopefully this article continues to spread the word and keep the information alive.

Thank goodness there are other platforms to keep the good times rolling.

This is a bit of a shorter article as I don’t want to say anything that adds to the already plentiful amount of misinformation surrounding these terms. Regardless I think the main point is pretty clear. If you or someone you know has a livelihood revolving around Patreon, especially if it’s with lewd content, it’s time to assess other options or at least consider if they’re okay following these restrictive terms of service. Do any lewd artists you like plan to leave Patreon? Would you be okay following these terms? Read the TOS carefully (yeah, right) and leave a comment below!
