A Review of Glare 1More
By ImJustThatKinky • 5 years ago

Nutaku asked us to take a look at this game, and here's our opinion.

You guys know the drill. It’s a game, I’m a reviewer, and time to do some analyzing. Make no mistake, I didn’t try out this game due to its popularity on the Nutaku website (like I’ll do with some other titles). I heard it had a unique typing concept and wanted to give it a try. I always put some respect on innovators in the porn game world and I was excited to discover something new.

Much to my surprise, “new” was not the word I should of used. Glare 1More is actually a remake of an older version named Glare 1. It’s developed and published by Kurenaibook and this new version was released on Nutaku on November 7, 2018. It features several improvements from the original, such as displaying the characters in Live2D, an added word search, a higher resolution, a bonus scenario, and a checkpoint system among other things.

Art/Music

The art is the best part of the game, which is a dodgy statement to hear. Your robot maid has a cute design that the CGs play around with (hair up, hair down, positions, etc.) The backgrounds are good enough to suffice. The Live2D technology definitely brings a lot to the table for this category. It makes Glare’s character look so much more alive than the classic still images found in visual novel games. As for the soundtrack there’s no background music to speak of, though a little jingle sound effect plays when you unlock a key piece of dialogue that you’ll need for the search function. Let’s go ahead and get into that because that’s the real tragedy here.

Girl do you know what kind of game this is?

Gameplay/Search Feature

And this is where everything truly falls apart. When I first read the premise, I was expecting a typing game of sorts. I anticipated a scenario where the girl would throw up a bunch of words and you unlock scenes by completing levels. Cute little idea, I thought. Instead, it turns out I misread what the game was saying. Basically, the main feature is that you have a search box you can use at any time. Your robot maid will speak to you and you need to figure out what words are important. You then type them into the search box and if correct, she’ll give new dialogue that leads to other keywords. This is also a cute little idea. The problem is they turned it into a huge idea. You can barely go two seconds without needing another keyword. And while sometimes they’re obvious or even highlighted, there are plenty of occasions when it’s unclear or vague. This leads to the player reading through the backlog to find what they missed, which is about as much fun as it sounds. If this feature was a bit more underplayed I think it could of been enjoyable, but it was so heavily employed that I can’t see anyone who's looking to fap to be willing to sit down and read through backlogs or trial and error their way through every few sentences.

The bane of my fucking existence.

The Sex…(Forgive me)

I’m not about lying to the audience so here goes: I fucking gave up before finding a legitimate scene. I’m sorry. I just… it was so boring my dudes. Entering a bunch of words until I find the right one? Bitch, what the fuck? I could only stand it for so long before feeling like I was wasting valuable time. However, I did do a little research to find what the scenes looked like. The Live2D effect was very interesting, but since the game doesn’t contain voice acting I doubt I missed much. Honestly it would have to be a four star sex experience at this point for me to even consider it being worth the painstaking trip that the player needs to undertake to even unlock them. If you really want to know, just go try and find the scenes somewhere. I don’t recommend the conventional way. I don’t recommend this game. I want to go home.

Doesn't seem like I missed much anyway.

At the end of the day, an interesting concept was over exaggerated and made playing the game a chore. If you like puzzle games you may find some enjoyment, but there has to be better options out there; 2/5

Wow. My disappoint is immeasurable, and my day is ruined. Do you guys have some recommendations? Are... “search the word” games timeless classics and I’m just stupid? Tell us in the comments below!
