Nico Robin Statue Erected in One Piece Creator's Hometown
By Yung Namahage • 2 years ago

Currently standing strong with 1,025 chapters over 100 volumes plus just under 1,000 anime episodes, Eichiro Oda's pirate epic One Piece has been a huge success since starting in 1997. Over the years, Oda's hometown of Kumamoto on the Japanese island Kyushu has commemorated his magnum opus with a series of brass statues in honor of the Straw Pirates. Brass Pirates, if you will.

The latest member of the Straw Pirates to join the statue crew is in the shape of Nico Robin, the Straw Pirates' resident archaeologist and one of the series' most iconic waifus. Her statue was unveiled with a livestreamed ceremony attended by the town's mascot Kumamon wearing a Luffy cosplay, as well as local government officials who welcomed Oda and gave speeches in his honor. Finally, Oda posted a brand new sketch of Robin on Twitter to mark the special occasion.

Robin joins Luffy, Sanji, Usop, Chopper, Brook, Nami and Franky as the eight One Piece statue in Kumamoto, with plans for Zoro and Jinbe to join them soon.

What do you guys think? Would you make a pilgrimage to Kyushu to see Robin, Luffy and the rest of the Straw Pirates? Let us know below!
