An Interview with GZone: Lewd Ghost Adventures
By Kasaix • 6 years ago

Kasaix: Greetings, people of Doujins! I’m sitting here with GZone, the artist and designer of Amity Park, a Danny Phantom eroge. I recently did a review of it, which can be found HERE. With an art style damn near Danny Phantom and Kim Possible show quality, it's easy to see how he's drawn so many fans, which is why I'm glad he agreed to speak with me.

Thanks again for hanging out. How's it going?

GZone: Thanks for having me. I am doing fine.

Kasaix: That's great to hear!

So tell me about yourself, how did you get into art? Your art style matches really closely with the cartoons the characters are based on, such as Kim Possible and Danny Phantom. Of course allowing for more rounded proportions so the girls look sexy.

GZone: Well, I am 27 and live in Germany. That might be unexpected because those shows are from the United States, but I have been a fan of them since the very beginning. As for how I got into art. Originally I was inspired by many modern styles, but as a child, mostly by anime and manga.
Therefore, I had to change it completely for this project. At the beginning I was analysing the style by watching the shows many, many times, but since I wanted to add a little more sex appeal to them, I was analysing some well know Danny Phantom artist like DLToon or grimphantom. Obviously I am nowhere near their level yet, but I like to believe that I have added a little bit of my own style to my drawing instead of just copying it from them.

Kasaix: That's fascinating. You definitely have your own art style though, and it's top notch.

What image do you consider best represents who you are as an artist? A picture you could show someone to give them an idea of who you are.

GZone: Who I am as an artist? That's a difficult question. I would say "Maddie Fenton - Thanks for voting me as N#1" because this was the first time I draw a cell shaded character with multiple levels of shading and at this point I have become confident that I found my own way of drawing those characters. I would also pick one of my recent pictures "Kim Possible monthly Reward (December)" because I love drawing those characters in a way as if they are interacting with the viewer and trying to seduce him. That's why I have drawn so many selfie themed pictures.

A Commission made for Mr. Ghost. Thank you for your request. And a big thank you to everyone who voted. I guess has clearly won the voting.

Kasaix: Excellent pictures. That would lead into my next question: who is your favorite girl to draw? If you're like me and can't choose just one girl, you can name a top five.

GZone: I would say 1. Maddie Fenton, 2. Kim Possible, 3. Sam Manson, 4. Desiree, 5. Paulina Sanchez

Kasaix: All good choices. I especially like Desiree's outfit.

Let's talk about the game design aspect of your work. When did you first get into game design? Amity Park is incredibly well-made, even at this early stage.

GZone: I was starting on some game ideas in unity when it has been just a 3D based game engine. But I never showed them to anyone.
Actually, my current project "Amity Park" was originally started in unity, but I thought a visual novel based game would be easier to do in renpy, so I began from scratch and had to start all over and learn python instead.
So this is actually my first serious game project.

Kasaix: That's quite a trip.

Do you have formal education in game design, or did you view lots of online tutorials and practice?

GZone: I have self taught myself by watching many tutorials, but in terms of renpy I was learning about it mostly by studying their documentation page.

Kasaix: Nice. I went to college to get a bachelor's degree in game design. I can attest it's not as easy as people think.

How is work progressing on Amity Park? I've played through it and it has great potential.

GZone: Well, to be honest, it could be better. We have many ideas on what we could add into the game, but I don't want to rush things that I might regret later on. So I have decided to take it slow and plan things out before we make it public. But as you said the show has great potential. Therefor we have to get serious and don't just add random events just because the people what an update as soon as possible.

Kasaix: True, you need to keep the game in scope.

Is there an update schedule you have in mind, or is that in the planning stages as well so you can pace yourself and not get burned out?

GZone: I was originally intending to get an update out every month, but this just did not work out at all the way I wanted.
Therefore, we are intending to plan every feature for the next few updates first and just add a status bar next to them so that everyone can see what the current status is and if they can expect an update coming soon.

Kasaix: Ah, interesting! Good idea.

In regards to the story, it seems like you've cut a fine line between keeping to the show and going off the path to allow for lewd scenes. For instance, Danny went into the ghost portal machine after his parents couldn't get it to work and became half-ghost as happened in the show. What didn't happen in the show is that Paulina runs into a perverted ghost squid in the park.

How did you work out that balance? Did you go back and watch the show again and make notes on where you can rewrite to make it lewd?

GZone: Yes, pretty much. I have just watched it a lot of time and got some ideas by doing so.
But obviously the fact that Danny can become invisible and go through the walls, it was a must that we make a good use of it for some spying events

Kasaix: It is a must that it be made for spying events.

Without spoiling too much, which girls will be available for some romance/sex scenes for Danny? I mention his name specifically because there is a scene where he is possessing someone for sex.

GZone: Desiree will be an easy choice since she is bound to him. But there will also be events for Sam, Paulina, Jazz and Maddie. Eventually we will add more girls to the harem, but those are the characters we want to focus for now.

Kasaix: Nice. I look forward to that.

The relationship meter has separate sections for Danny Fenton and Danny Phantom. I'm assuming this leads to Danny having to romance a girl as either Phantom or Fenton. Like, Paulina has no interest in Danny Fenton, but seems willing to pull Danny Phantom into that bathroom stall. Is that about right?

GZone: Yes, that's absolutely right.

Kasaix: Ah, interesting.

Moving on, what is a dream project for you? Something you feel you must absolutely work on?

GZone: What do you mean by a dream project? Something specific about?
Generally, I would say it could be everything as long as I love drawing for it and people like me to work on it.

Kasaix: That's a nice thought. I like that.

Well, I've clearly taken up a lot of your time. Hahah! Do you have any parting words for your fans?

GZone: No problem.
Well, nothing much, but Thank you for all of your support. I know it takes me quite some time to get an update done. But I am grateful for your patience and I hope it will be worth waiting for.

Kasaix: Judging from where it is now, and how much care and attention you're giving it, I definitely see it being worth the wait.

GZone: Thank you.
