Kotobukiya Figures Put the Trans in Tranformers

Figurine  manufacturer Kotobukiya are known for their high quality models and creative designs. Their Bishoujo range, as the name suggests, is packed full of gorgeous PVC waifu figurines from a variety of licenses, ranging from Marvel to My Little Pony. There's also genderbent versions of certain characters, including horror icons like Pennywise and Jason Voorhees. One of my favorite images of all time is this one of Robert Englund holding up a waifu figurine based on the dream-invading murderer he brought to life in Nightmare on Elm Street

The latest additions to the Bishoujo line are the eternally warring Cybertronian rivals Optimus Prime and Megatron. Called the Bishoujo Convoy line, the leaders of the Autobots and Decepticons are the first of their respective factions to get the Bishoujo treatment.

Optimommy here looks like a tomboy whose not afraid to get her hands dirty, and the hair antennae, goggles and suitcase are nice allusions to the original's design. I could imagine her giving a rousing speech before committing war crimes to a Linkin Park tune. Megs, on the other hand looks domineering and militaristic with her huge ass cannon. I'd let her step on me anyday.

Other than the above concept art, Kotobukiya have release a photo of an unpainted prototype of the Optimus model. Megatron's is nowhere to be seen as yet.

Kotobukiya's Bishoujo Convoy line is set for release sometime next year, with pre-orders opening this summer. What do you guys think? Would you like to see other Transformers turned into waifu figurines? Leave your thoughts below!

I gotta say I found the title kind of annoying, cos as a Transformers fan I've already heard the "haha, that series has the word TRANS in it!" gag plenty of times. Like, yeah, the "trans" part means "to change", but when used with people there's a pretty specific meaning these days, you know?

It's not like it's the actual Optimus and Megatron deciding to identify themselves as female.

please do not use such a vile word in a title
genderswap is more appropriate

As a trans man, they’re not trans?? It’s okay to say gender swap, you know…

Interesting designs. Fandom had always humanize non-human characters and vice-versa the other way around. I like that female-Megatron is dressed like a fascist, which is what Megatron is. Female-Optimus looks more like a tomboy mechanic than a leader. I wonder if they will ever do figurines of gender-bend Naruto characters. I'm sure there is a Naruko figurine yet what about the others?

Transformers as waifus? Interesting. Personally I'd stick to the waifus I know and love myself but these certainly sound and seem charming.

On the one hand, the designs of the girls themselves look good and have some nice details. On the other hand, applying this kind of "anthropomorphism" to already established characters (as opposed to outright inanimate objects like, say, the warships from Kancolle and Azur Lane) will never stop feeling weird to me.
