Blaming A Guy For ED
By WakeUpSnooze • 7 months ago

The episode pertaining to the topic at hand today aired several weeks ago, but I couldn’t resist a little revisit back to dive into one of the big problems Rudeus is dealing with this season: erectile dysfunction. Weird thing for an anime protagonist to be dealing with I know, but after things fell apart with his previous love interest, our boy is down for the count both spiritually and physically. What shocked me though, is that a new female character he was seeing learned about his ED the hard way during a steamy night… and blamed him for it?

I don’t want to dive too deep into this specific character because really this is something I've seen in anime and media multiple times over, and it boggles my noggin every time. A girl and guy get ready for some action, the guy struggles to get it up for some reason, and the girl’s reaction is to become offended thinking she’s not attractive enough for him. She usually then exchanges some negative words and quickly rushes out of the scene. Fellas, how is this allowed? I don’t think any guy struggling with getting his pecker going is wishing or wanting for that to happen. It’s not a test to see if the almighty weiner will “choose” whether or not the girl is worthy of such great penile pleasure. It’s a debilitating situation where a dude fails to get ready sexually through no fault of his own. I was a bit flabbergasted that something with writing on the level of Mushoku Tensei still had a character who blamed a male for an ED issue, and no other person in the story seemed to call her out for it. Now I know this is a VERY long running series and there’s a chance we’ll run into this girl again years later in our boy’s journey and perhaps they’ll be able to have a real discussion about what happened, but for the time being I think it’s a missed opportunity to have a productive depiction of a guy dealing with an embarrassing condition.

That's crazy, cause five seconds ago was a different story.

I do think over time I see this trope of a scenario play out less and less in anime. As far as I’m concerned that’s a good thing because logically I have no idea how it even makes sense for a girl to get upset over a guy’s uncontrollable dick problem in the first place. Have you ever struggled with ED or a symptom of it? Have you seen ED depicted in media? Do you think said piece of media did a good or poor job depicting the condition? Fall in love, get horny, and get blamed for staying soft in the comments below!
