A Review of Lucy's Got Problems
By ImJustThatKinky • 5 years ago

Imaginary here... well, if you read yesterday's article you know that already.

Nutaku asked us to take a look at this game, and here's our opinion.

Damn… Kinky better come back soon. I can only do so many reviews back to back, you know? Hey speaking of which, I thought since Kinky has problems it would only be topical to try out Lucy’s Got Problems, am I right? We can compare and contrast or some shit.

Lucy’s Got Problems is a medium-length (3-5 hours depending) visual novel. It was both developed and published by Flat Chest Dev and became available on the Nutaku store on February 1st, 2019. You can pick it up there for $7.99 and can expect it to take up ~650MB of space.

Art/Music

I was really surprised by the effort put into this game. After last week’s title I was certain that I’d be taking a trip right back into the depths of hell. However, Flat Chest Dev came through in a lot of ways. Not only does the art come across as vibrant, colorful, and clean, but there’s a nice quantity of it too in terms of backgrounds and character shots. Since that stuff is easily found though, I want to shout out the transitions which were varied and thematically appropriate. In other words, not just Fade to Black HD Edition. The sound effects that were provided added additional atmosphere to the locations while staying quiet enough to not interfere with the music which, by the way, was good too. The majority of the tracks complement the upbeat, jovial tone of the game while a few battle themes were kept in reserve to bust out when things got action-packed. Those battle tracks were some of my favorites as they reminded me of the newer Pokémon battle themes. Overall Lucy may got problems, but I couldn’t find any for this section.

Look at that. Are you seeing this right now? Elf. Girl. Bondage. Art. Amen.

Writing/Gameplay

Thank god the writing actually holds up to the standard of the art. The game never takes the story or characters too seriously and it works fine here. It knows it’s just a comedy yuri visual novel and doesn't waste time boggling itself down with exposition. Basically you’re Lucy, and you’re in trouble with your demon superior Tiamat for deserting your mission. The story is told from the perspective of Lucy recounting the events leading up to her current problem. Along the way there’s several bad endings, funny moments, cute moments, and squirrel moments. I died to an acorn that a squirrel through at me on my first route. Sick. Characters that appear are just as ridiculous and serve to keep the mood light. I included gameplay in this category because there’s some smart mechanics with a timed choice option that forces you to make quick decisions (Think Telltale). Better yet, you can choose how you want to play in the beginning if you aren’t a fan of timed choices or play on hardcore if you love the pressure.

An acorn pierced my knee and I bled out. My dying words were aw, nuts.

The Sex

This has to be some kind of sick joke. I legit went and read some other reviews first before writing this section because I thought I was fucking up my experience somehow. Who the fuck is responsible for this? How did my number one enemy of all time, ecchi, make its way into this adventure? Where’s my yuri sex?? You can’t see my face, but I’m dead inside right now. I don’t think… this is a sex game. It’s just a comedy game with ecchi elements. Yet on the tags area on Nutaku, it says “Hentai”. There’s no mention that it doesn’t really contain much sex except in some quote from another reviewer who labels it ecchi among other things. There’s a few steamy moments sure, but you have to be the fastest hand in the west to manage to cum to them before they’re over. The worst part is, I have no idea whose fault this is. Did the developer not inform Nutaku to make it clear this game doesn’t have much sex? Did Nutaku simply mistakenly put “Hentai” instead of “Ecchi”? Who can I blame for this tragedy?

The classic furry surprise. Worst part is, this massage was the most sex I found.

How do I even rate this shit? If I knew it was an ecchi and never advertised itself as anything but an ecchi then I couldn’t be mad. Was there an error made in releasing it on Nutaku or did nobody want to come out and admit that it had very few moments of dedicated time for sex?

TL;DR I’m going to refrain from rating this as I don’t know the exact details of who fucked up. Regardless, I completely recommend it for its fantastic art, detailed transitions, upbeat music and humorous dialogue… for all ecchi fans. If you were hoping for some hot yuri sex with this artstyle, then give up and look elsewhere.

Are you a fan of ecchi games? Were you the one that put that damn “Hentai” tag on this game? Tell us in the comments below!
