A Disturbance in the Cosmos? Shun Genderbent in New CG Saint Seiya

Update After the Twitter Thread

After our first look at the new Saint Seiya, Netflix dropped a trailer that had people concerned. Let's just take a look at the trailer for Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac.

The likes to dislikes ratio does not bode well, and people have mentioned the graphics not being great, but a lot of comments were directed towards Shun, famously an effeminate character, being turned into a girl. This post really brought that home. Nothing to add here, R Dot sums it all up quite nicely.

I couldn't just copy/paste, that needed to be snipped.

So, who is this Eugene guy our hero mentioned? Why, he's one of the producers, and the one responsible for this rule 63 fail. Eugene Son went on a long twitter rant, full of a sense of superiority, accomplishment, and righteousness over pushing some agenda I can't quite understand, before he quickly deleted his account. Thankfully, the internet never forgets.

Responses were mostly professional, but not all. This guy stands by everything, even as he deletes his account. Honestly, what's with these people taking beloved series and changing them? Give the people what they want, not what you want and hope they like it too. Even Toei was against it! Still, he wanted to change something just because, and now he's running off twitter as he defends his idocy.

Now for a real creator's take on it, Tales of Nothing co-creator Fanny Rodriguez weighed in on this guy's reasoning in a twitter thread that knocked it out of the park. To sum it up, there are already female characters that could have played a bigger part. No need to genderswap a male character, much less one of the most powerful and the most peaceful and fragile character. You idiot.

What are your thoughts on Eugene Son's antics? Sound off in the comments below!

UPDATE: Eugene Son decided to tell a woman what he thinks women find offensive. Click the tweet to see the nonsense. Also, check the #SaintSeiya hashtag for more dumpster fires.
