Why Did Fate Grand Order Start With the 8th Arc?

I want to start this off by saying that I’ve never played the Fate Grand Order mobile game. And now that I’m writing this article, I might do that. With my lack of knowledge of Fate Grand Order but my enjoyment of Fate Stay Night and Zero, I was hype to hear that Fate Grand Order was getting an anime. What I didn’t like was learning that it wasn’t starting from the beginning, but with the Babylonia arc, the 8th arc out of 9.

I still decided to watch the new Fate Grand Order since it still looked like it could be watched as its own thing. And with only watching 4 episodes, it does seem like it could be watched as a stand alone thing. It’s just annoying watching the show knowing that our mains Fujimaru and Mesh, have been on missions we have never seen. Merlin even brings up how he’s been enjoying watching the two on their adventures in episode 2.

Yeah, thanks Merlin for showing me that I missed the arc with best bae in it.

Fate is a popular series, so I don’t see why they decided to skip 7 arcs, just to get to the Babylonia arc. Even if it’s the most popular arc in the Fate Grand Order mobile game, I’m sure fans would not have a problem watching all 7 arcs before getting to this one. I feel like viewers like me can watch Fate Grand Order - Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia without prior knowledge, but we’re still losing out on a lot of interesting adventures and character moments...or at least, that’s what I think. Maybe those arcs are super boring and have nothing exciting to offer? Maybe studio ClockWork is doing us a favor?

Why do you think studio ClockWork skipped all the other 7 arcs Would you have liked to see the other arcs animated? Was the other 7 arcs boring? Tell us in the comments below.

It's important to remember that a poll was actually held. The audience was given the choice to decide which arc got an adaptation. FGO's narrative quality soared during Camelot and Babylonia so I'd imagine that's why those two got picked. It would be a gargantuan effort to adapt all of the prior singularities anyway so it's cheaper and easier to just adapt the ones that people want.

Everything up to America is pretty crap storywise.

The og singularity is already animated, albeit in a weird, kinda sorta non-canon scenario.

Orleans is pretty boring.
Septem is just Nero wank, and dull.
Okeanos is considered terrible by most(No offense).
London Very bad, so bad it's one of the worst rated in Japan.
America is where it starts getting good.
And Camelot movie.

Okay, in order to not repeat what the rest of peple said previos chapters need to be heavily rewriten. And the three scenario writers agree. They actually want to.

Also, reason why later arcs were better: they let them write larger scripts in a way they found comfortable. That's all.

Think someone mentioned it already, but the quality before the America singularity was subpar at best. Orleans is mainly good for introducing you to a different side of Jeanne as well as introducing the France crew. Septum is just Nero wank, and extremely long for no reason. Orkeanos had a repeating story structure to Orleans. And London kinda sucked.

My guess is because it's an arc that centers around Gilgamesh and everyone seems to love him as a character. I play the game and it's the only real reason I can think of.

It’s important to keep in mind that when FGO launches, the devs has no idea what the heck they were doing. Servers were as sturdy as toilet paper. And the writers didn’t really know what kind of project it would be. So they didn’t take things super seriously at first.

It wasn’t until the 5th arc released, America, that the devs finally found direction. Then Camelot released and was fantastic

Also, forgot to mention this but, yes I would like to see all the arcs animated. There are a lot of parts where cool fights happen and you can't really enjoy them in the game because they are just described to you with only character sprite clashes and flashes to show anything is happening but, seeing it in an anime would let us fully enjoy those fights.

I would have loved it if they had animated the other arcs! So much growth for the characters and interactions with the Servants. Hell even a slice of life spun off of life in Chaldea could have been possible. So much wasted potential.

Personally I want it to be a test to see which format works best for a Fate/Grand Order anime movie or tv series which I hope turns out to be tv series as it would be the best for a full ver. though I suppose a series of OVAs could work and in regards to other comments mentioning the bad quality of the other arcs that could be fixed in an anime and those could be gone through quickly if need be.
