Only in Japan: Weekly Shonen Jump-Themed Famicom Mini
By Kasaix • 5 years ago

People lost their collective minds when Nintendo first released the NES Mini. It disappeared from store shelves and online shops faster than food on Chi Chi's dinner table at the Son house. SNES Mini as popular as the NES, and rumors circulating of a possible PS1 Mini, it's no surprise the Famicom Mini would make an appearance.

For those not up on their videogame history, the Famicom, short for Family Computer, is something like the Japanese-only version of the original NES, and there are numerous differences between the two. That's perhaps an over-simplification of it, and it's besides the point.

Part of Shueisha’s continued celebration of Weekly Shonen Jump, Nintendo is launching the Nintendo Classic Mini Family Computer Weekly Shonen Jump 50th Anniversary Version, available on July 7, with a price tag of 7,980 yen ($73.33). It comes with 20 games loaded onto the system:

  • Captain Tsubasa
  • Captain Tsubasa 2
  • Dragon Ball 3: Gokuden
  • Dragon Ball Z: Kyoushuu! Saiyajin
  • Dragon Ball: Shenron no Nazo
  • Dragon Quest
  • Famicom Jump: Hero Retsuden
  • Famicom Jump II: Saikyou no Shichinin

The US will likely not see an official port of this, but it's always nice to know such things exist. Eager fans can always import it themselves, however.
