New Doujins 4.2 Updates
By Paul Fidika • 6 years ago

Hey guys! Raikoh / Paul Fidika here to announce some exciting new changes and get your guys' feedback.

Doujins 4.2 Changes:

-Support for 4k Monitors / Super Retina Displays: Looking at doujins.com on my new iPhone X, I realized the image-thumbnails look like blurry compression-artifcated pieces of shit. That's because they're only 182 x 260 pixels, arranged in columns of 2, meaning that 182 x = 364 pixels are stretched out over Apple's glorious new 1,125 pixel-width display. Something had to be done! So we DOUBLED the resolution of all thumbnail images to 364 x 520 pixels, and it looks great--a night and day difference. Seriously, if you have a high-resolution phone display, or a 4K computer monitor, I want you to stick your nose into that screen: can you read the dialogue text right off the thumbnail image? Damn right you can. Now try doing that on your old 1080p display. Didn't work? I didn't think so. Doujins.com detects your display resolution automatically and serves you regular-size thumbnails (default) or 2x size thumbnails. Did you phone the Apple iPhone X's super-retina display has 458 pixels per inch, and the Google Pixel 2 XL has 538 pixels per inch? Whaaaaat

-New Rating System: Instead of rating galleries on a scale of 1 - 5 (antiquated!), you'll be rating galleries on whether you like them (thumb up!) or dislike them (thumb down). Galleries will be rated on their approval percentage (1% - 99%) rather than their average-rating (1 - 5 stars).

-Tags on top: by far our most commonly-received request was to move the tags to the top of the page, so users can more quickly tell what they're getting into before they discover (to their surprise and horror) that they've been reading a trap-yaoi or futanari or netorare story the whole time.

-Relocated Controls: we moved the slideshow / favorite / download / similar gallery buttons to fit into the grid-layout.

-Poll History: the Poll History page is finally back

-Downloads: you now must be logged into an account (they're free!) to download zip-files for galleries. An idea I've been tossing around: requiring users to register or log in to a free account in order to use the site. Too few of our visitors register or use accounts, and you need an account to use all the awesome features Doujins.com has to offer (favorites, bookmarks, comments, etc.), so why not require it? What do you guys think?

Doujins 4.3 Changes (Proposed):

-Personalization: maybe we could make gallery-recommendations for you based upon your thumb-up and thumb-down history. I also want to think of a useful 'trending galleries' page. Any ideas? The remaining items are carry-overs that are still on the to-do list:

-White-List and Black-List: make a list of 5 tags you like, and 5 tags you dislike. Galleries with tags you like will be highlighted, and galleries with tags you dislike will be greyed-out, communicating to you what you want to see, and what you want to avoid.

-Dark-Mode: be able to switch the site from its current friendly light-theme to a more adult dark-theme instead.

-Blog Redesign: redesign the blog to make it look more like a professional news site.

And here's what I want to ask you guys:

-Do you have any ideas for future daily polls you want us to run? They can be serious, academic, silly, or fun.

-What do you want to see changed on this site?

-What's currently broken / not working right for you on this site? What could work better?
