Strap in boys, you're going to need some dual pistols because Netflix is priming to bring Devil May Cry to their anime lineup next year in April of 2025. The adaptation will consist of eight episodes and they confirmed Johnny Yong Bosch (Ichigo, Lelouch) will be taking the role of Dante. The teaser trailer has been released and you can check it out for yourself if you want to see what Ebony and Ivory are cooking up.
This is news to me but apparently this is not the first anime adaptation for a Devil May Cry anime. We already received one years ago way back in 2007 from Studio Madhouse. Based on the severe lack of ever hearing about it once in my entire life I expected to see devastating reviews, but at least on IMDB audiences seemed to enjoy it alright. It sits around a 7.0/10 which of course translates to "pretty alright" in real review terms. This time around the studio has changed over to Studio Mir, which at first struck fear into my heart considering that's actually a South Korean animation studio (plus it doesn't have the legacy that Madhouse does in the animation space to my knowledge). However, that being said they did just work on the recent X-Men 97 series which seemed to resonate well with fans. That bitch was trending solid for a while and got some crowd acclaim. To this day I still haven't played the DMC series which is a stain on my gaming reputation I must apologize for. Still if this series makes a splash I'm not against some more dazzling action joining my schedule.
Netflix-related anime productions are always a risky business. Since we're not talking about live action my faith is higher than normal, but it's still a hit or miss scenario. Here's hoping that this depicts a fun adventure with the boy Dante that also contains some sort of narrative substance mixed in. Have you played the DMC games? Did you check out the teaser? Do you think this will be a good production that promotes the series? Grab your twin pistols, hit a nasty combo, and hunt some demons in the comments below!
