The dead speak! War enrages the subreddit of Animemes. After the Mod Empire’s swift ban of the word “trap” in any context, chaos soon emerges. While it was a noticeably mixed reaction at the time of the announcement, word soon spread across the galaxy. The rebellion needs you, they said. Visitors from other subreddits, lurkers, average anime fans, everyone was summoned to aid the resistance in trying to convince the mods to repeal the new ban. Conflict ensues for several days. The mods had assumed that the users would get tired and waver after a while, but day after day, the battle continued to rage on. Memes were the main ammunition utilized by the resistance. The following detail some fine arsenal used in the war:
Alas, the mods refused to back down. After realizing that the subreddit was dying (from almost 1 million users to 800k in a short period) and that the resistance’s will was going to be hard as hell to snuff out, the mods ultimately decided to set the entire subreddit on lockdown. It is officially on hiatus at the time of writing. Everyone who was unhappy about the trap ban (and many who didn’t care, but were more concerned with the mod’s decision to enact such a big change without seeking input from the community) have moved on to “GoodAnimemes”, the new replacement. It already has 223K members since August 4th.
It is unclear if Animemes will return and what shape it will be in when it does. It’s crazy to think that an almost 1 million member subreddit was completely destroyed over not wanting to have an open conversation with the community about the word “trap”. Regardless of the politics this was a poor way to handle a big rule change and thus an outcome like this was bound to happen. Do you think Animemes is gone forever?
