It's not often that I find myself actively hating a character beyond what I consider intentional by the author. I mean the entire world hated Joffrey so much that I know he's an evil shit despite never having watched Game of Thrones, but it's obvious that the writers wanted him to be loathed. I'm not sure if that's the case with Zenitsu, but at this point I'm actively praying for his downfall. This season we've covered the Hashira training arc which is already a bit more slow-paced than other Demon Slayer installments. Stack on top of that the horrendous task of listening to Zenitsu whine and complain every two seconds combined with the fact that he hasn't grown as a person at all despite the audience reaching close to the series' end and I'm ready to strangle this dude.
It's okay, nay, it's necessary for a character to have flaws. However, my man Zenitsu doesn't just have flaws, he is the incarnate of the concept of “flawed” itself. He's a coward, weak, loud, annoying, a simp, whiny, and distracting. The only time he's redeemable is when he's unconscious and not acting like himself during battle... and is it really a strong quality for a character to be at their best 3% of their screen time and when they don't even act normal? A few seconds of Zenitsu being awesome per season is not enough to justify the suffering from his normal behavior. This season he hasn't been awesome for a single second, let alone three. Oddly enough, I think the worst quality he possesses is being so fucking loud. Most character flaws can be understood and forgiven, but when a character is loud, it sort of amplifies the effect of other flaws. It's one thing to complain about training. It's another to constantly yell into my damn ear as loud as he can that he hates this training and wants to go home. It's one thing to be a coward. It's another to yell about how scared he is and try to scream at everyone around him to escort him home. You catch my drift?
Don't get my hopes up brother.
Zenitsu is a scene stealer and I mean that in the worst possible way. It's so hard to focus on what anyone else is doing or ignore his antics when it's being shoved into your face (eardrums) to such a degree. Any sympathy I once had for this dude has long since dissipated and I can't imagine anyone finding him fun to watch at this point. Hell, I don't know how the mangaka even feels about him. Maybe it's a cultural disconnect because I'm not sure how anyone could find the "humor" in his personality after staying stagnant for so long. Are you watching Demon Slayer? What did you think of the Hashira training arc? What makes you hate a character beyond what the author intended? Yell at everyone around you, cry that you want to simp and go home, and maybe unleash a lightning attack once per season in the comments below!
The anime should have brought it up, but it has to do with the exact same kid that let the demon into the temple in the stone hashira's backstory.
