Dragon Ball Drops Into Fortnite In Latest Anime Crossover
By WakeUpSnooze • 1 year ago

Well, the mad lads have done it. I’ve made an article in the past detailing the absolutely wacky amount of crossovers that Fortnite has had. They recently moved into the world of anime with a huge Naruto collaboration and I’m ashamed to admit it but you know your boy had to pick up that Itachi skin. That whole ordeal must have made them a nice chunk of change because recently the game came back to update and collaborate with none other than the Dragon Ball franchise, one of the most popular and highest grossing anime franchises of all time. I read a report earlier this year that Dragon Ball was worth around $27 billion, for comparison’s sake Naruto was only worth around $10 billion. Those are rough numbers of course but given the history of Dragon Ball I could definitely believe them and either way I believe this to be an even bigger anime crossover than before in the game. I’ll post the trailer below for the interested.

As with most crossovers, the game is going even further beyond a new skin or two. The trailer shows several new cosmetics but also new gameplay elements such as riding around on a Nimbus cloud and blasting opponents with a Kamehameha. New areas that incorporate the iconic Dragon Ball artstyle are present as well, not to mention that there will be a questline to unlock some of the smaller cosmetics for free. Ever since they added the “No Build” mode which places much more emphasis on picking strategic locations for cover instead of building your own, I’ve seen a lot more people around the Internet claiming to be checking in on the Fortnite crossovers and playing some matches here and there. As for myself I think I’ll be sticking with the regular game mode for now, but I definitely can’t wait to find some time with a friend to hop on the island and see exactly what all this new update has to offer. Well, besides the new Tournament of Power event. I don’t need to get that sweaty in a battle royale.

Looking back the crazy part is that I’m not even much of a Dragon Ball fan, and yet still I’m just excited to see what kind of wacky shit they put in the update. Thankfully my wallet will be safe this time though (please no Jujutsu Kaisen crossover Epic or I’ll be drained of cash on sight). If Fornite is willing to pay whatever sky high license fees are attached to DB, then I can only imagine it will continue to go after popular anime here and there assuming they get people coming back to the game and dropping some V-bucks. Either way, it’s now a game where Goku can squad up with Darth Vader, Kratos, and Jinx to drop on the map and kill enemies with submachine guns. The beauty of gaming, everyone. Do you expect more anime collabs from Fortnite? Will you be checking out the update? Train up, hop on a cloud, and start blasting your foes with a Kamehameha in the comments below!
