DOA Director Says "Don't Worry!" About New Changes
By Kasaix • 5 years ago

Yohei Shimbori is the director and producer of the upcoming Dead or Alive 6. Some fans have caught wind that the beloved boob-physics was being toned down, and that there was an odd reversal in attire. Girls were more dressed up, and guys were more dressed down. Now, the DOA series is excellent, the combat and story are great. However, fans want to see their waifus front and center with moving boobs we can almost see through skimpy clothes. We? I mean them. Those fans over there. Yeah... >.>

Here's what he had to say about the matter in a recent interview:

“I got a lot of feedback worrying about that. The costumes that we have been showcasing are only a part of the game. But I don’t want everyone to be worried because we’re expecting a lot more costumes coming out.

I wasn’t surprised at all [at the feedback]. I actually expected that and I understand it as well. I expect that those worries will be gradually resolved, because we’re just showcasing the stuff that the team can [show] at this point in development. We don’t plan to do something very extreme, and I would like to tell the fans, ‘don’t worry'”.

Put a pin in that for a sec. Shimbori also said this in an interview from July:

"The boobs are smaller as opposed to before because we wanted the girls to appear more human. We don’t want to reshape them smaller or larger just on a whim,”

With that, the fact that the girls are dressed up and the guys are dressed down, a pattern begins to form.

“Kasumi’s facial structure looks a lot older in Dead or Alive 6, and her new body model is a physically fit teen and not the oversexed supermodel child it’s been in the past.”

“Shimbori and his team want to make strides towards removing sexual fanservice from Dead or Alive, but they acknowledge that certain mechanics and aspects of the franchise are too ingrained in the series’ DNA to abandon completely.”

Someone get the pitchforks. Now to be fair, that nonsense he spouted about Kasumi was discussed in July, and his words of "Don't worry" are from August. Maybe the fan outrage reached him and he knew he was about to kill a longstanding franchise? I mean, removing fanservice from Dead or Alive? That's like trying to remove spaceships from Star Trek, or super speed martial arts combat from the Dragon Ball franchise. He said “we don’t plan to do something very extreme” before, and there's no context for that line. Too extreme as in showing off more skin, or not covering up too much skin, isn't clear. All said, I'm waiting to see what this guy does before deciding whether or not to touch DOA 6. A group of people made a Change.org petition, and as impactful as that may or may not have been, it's been blocked from being posted to any DOA social media page.

What do you make of this nonsense and the man responsible for it? Sound off in the comments below.

P.S. Why is there some fine DOA sexy goodness in this article. Two reasons. 1) Because just text on a site about more visual materials is just silly. 2) Because Dead or Alive is home to sexy girls. Trying to change that is just idiotic.
