This may turn out to be quite the polarizing topic. In my experience people either believe that music and sex are like peanut butter and jelly, while others protest that they’re oil and water. Obviously the quality of the music will have a big impact on the equation as I’m sure very few people want to lay down pipe listening to Tekashi69. Interestingly enough I think the most important factor is actually the medium that you’re consuming the porn in. Allow me to explain.

One day I was watching an anime and it occurred to me “holy shit the background music never stops”. Anime love to have music blasting at all times, even when characters are sitting around goofing off or engaging in basic conversation. This is a big contrast to live action TV shows and movies where the use of music and soundtrack is typically a bit more spread out and reserved (not always the case but in general). This has conditioned me in a way where I can tolerate music a lot more in hentai. In fact, when a hentai animation has only sound effects and voices going for it, it sounds a bit out of place and incomplete to me. I’m not saying I want The Rolling Stones to be rocking my eardrums while Space Pirate Sara is captured and fucked by aliens, but something that fills the auditory space is nice.

On the flipside, I can’t stand 95% of music that plays during live porn. I don’t care if it’s the gentle playing of a flute that you can barely hear, I’d rather it not be present at all. Anytime music plays it instantly breaks my immersion for some reason. Every rule has exceptions but as I rack my brain I can barely conjure up many porn videos that I like and that have music in them. Let’s be real, most porn music is trash already and when it’s somehow not trash it still can interfere with the overall vibe. For example, Uncle Snooze likes a little hardcore stuff here and there. For some reason, on a recent video I watched the director thought it would be epic to have this edgy, dark music playing the whole damn time. To me the silence adds to the depravity of hardcore fucking as you just hear the sounds of people going nuts. The added soundtrack somehow killed the vibe and made it feel too much, like “yeah watch this hardcore porn you degenerate, here’s some draining evil BGM to match your evil soul”.

I’m somewhat confident that people will agree with me on the presence of BGM almost always being a benefit in regards to animation. Unless it’s simply trash by design, it’s likely going to add to the overall experience. I’m not sure how many will agree with me on music in live action porn so that’ll be interesting.
