Did You Ever Take A Sex Quiz?

While watching The Dangers in My Heart this season, some of the characters brought up sex quizzes in a discussion and man did that bring high school memories rushing to the forefront of my mind. Back in my day, personality quizzes were all the rage. Everyone wanted to know what ISTJZ type they were and how that meant they were destined to save the world, or equally as important, which Naruto character they resemble the most. Of course anime quizzes would be based on the most arbitrary shit ever constructed, such as “do you like foxes with multiple tails more or lightning that strikes really precisely”. Boys would pick the lightning and then oh my fucking goodness what would you know, they’d end up being associated with Sasuke by the quiz. But beyond anime quizzes, I still remember people taking sexual quizzes and sharing their results.

The most common one I remember was a dominant/submissive quiz that showed you a percentage of how much you were of each. I suppose this was a bit more useful than anime character quizzes as it showed a percentage at the end of where you lied on the spectrum. However, let’s be real, the result could be deduced by anyone willing to self-analyze for more than fifteen seconds. If you want to be on bottom, have your partner take control, like being tied up, and don’t mind a little slap on the ass then by god you might just be more submissive than dominant. Despite this quiz being a tool to point out obvious conclusions, it was everywhere a few years ago. I never put much faith in them so I didn’t take it myself, but I’d seen plenty of people showing where they lie on the spectrum and displaying what sort of questions it asked. Some of the quizzes covered more advanced kinks too like “how much of a furry are you” or “do you favor incest or bondage as your top kink”. Over time I think society realized how braindead the questions were and we moved on to simply saying whatever we’re into on Twitter pages.

History repeats itself.

From my perspective it’s interesting to see how fast the quiz trend came and went in terms of the sexually-charged ones, but perhaps since I’m out of college I simply no longer run into the target demographics and there are still those out there who enjoy taking them. More power to them I suppose, but with conclusion quality of that level, I think I’ll stick with using my time to read more doujins and choose my favorite kinks for myself. By, you know, uh, thinking about it for a second. Did you live through the sex quiz era? Have you ever taken one yourself? What were your results… a-asking for a friend of course! Pop open a private window, take a quiz, and realize you spent 10 minutes for it to tell you something you already know in the comments below!

Never heard of these quizzes. The Internet (as we know it today) did not exist when I was in high school back in the late 1980's, so I had not ever took them. My knowledge of sex itself did not really reached 'adult level' until I was 15 - 16, given I had to learn everything on my own. My parents were so conservative that they couldn't teach anything, and school was not helpful. (continue)

Yeah, I remember these from 14yrs ago in High School; I never took them seriously (never had sex then) so I answered whatever; but I always got pissed at the result because they sounded so assuredly.

Yeah, new ones bounce around Twitter every so often, usually ones where you just put your name in and get a random bunch of statistics that will change when you put your name back in.

I knew this existed but never cared, so I never took one. Like you said, most online quizzes tell you what’s very obvious based on your answers.

Out of curiousity, what did you study in college? What kind of degree did you get?

I heard of them via whispers and rumors in my school days but they seemed to be just an urban legend among us, never had one myself or knew anyone who did that would admit it. By then I already had my established kinks and others were just burgeoning.

Heh. My biggest problem with The Dangers In My Heart was that I was all set to use it in my class to show how to write characters interacting with each other, but after the first few episodes had to rethink that strategy.

Girl awkwardly trying to figure out how to apologise to Anna? No problem. Anna's classmate going on about how he likes a girl with meat on her bones? Bit more problematic.

Ah, I vaguely remember some of my classmates doing one of these. I recall them asking me a bunch of questions and then giggling or laughing after they had all my answers, but when I asked what it was about they told me I was too young to know.

The only reason I remember it so well was that it was the only time that's happened in all my school life, so it stood out.
