Anime comedies are already kind of hard to come by. Since some of the anime are deeply rooted in Japanese culture, it can sometimes go over our dumb American heads. And sometimes listening to it in Japanese and reading English subs, doesn’t hit the same as hearing it in your own language. Well, the dumb comedy Konosuba kind of breaks all of that. Funny in both Japanese and English, and also have jokes that are just stupid and appeal to a wide variety of people. But Konosuba is known for its dumb misadventures of a party of four. Not a solo adventure with one explosion mage.

It is a prequel series starring one of the main cast members of the original Konosuba, Megumin. I watched an episode of KONOSUBA -An Explosion on This Wonderful World!, and it was funny, but after that…I didn’t watch anymore episodes. And I’ll be honest with you, I don’t really know why. It’s not like the episode bored me, and I had a good bit of chuckles, but since it wasn’t a sequel or an actual continuation of the original, I had no motivation to keep watching. It might also be the fact that this season is already stacked full of shows, that I didn’t see it as a priority.

And I’m not sure if making a prequel/spin-off with Megumin as the lead was the right choice. Out of all the girls, is Megumin number one? I like Megumin, but I think I like Darkness and Aqua more. But hey, that’s just me. I feel like the writer of Konosuba is just a good and funny writer all around, so I do think Megumin could carry a show on her own. But just for me, and this season, she wasn’t able to hold my interest. Maybe when season 3 is closer to airing, I’ll watch this spin-off to get me hype for season 3. Well, at least we know that Megumin can carry a good amount of doujins on her own.
