Artist Draws Differences Between Erotic Manga for Men & Women
By Yung Namahage • 4 years ago

Say what you will about gender coding these days, there are still some things that are clearly made for men and some that are clearly made for women. Not only does that include porn, but erotic manga as well. But have you ever wondered what makes women's and men's eromanga different?

A Japanese artist created two images to show the difference between erotic manga aimed at women (left) and men (right), with an identical concept and similar dialogue but they're very different in practice.

Here, the girl in a school uniform has a surprised, flustered look as the handsome guy draws her in. He looks older and is dressed differently, almost like he's meant to be a teacher. This is reinforced by the dialogue; "I will make you mine now," but the 'you' in this instance is 'omae' which gives an implication of superiority. She replies with "N-no," seeming embarassed or unprepared as her senpai pulls her close. Finally, the lighter background gives the scene a more romanticized vibe, giving it an almost dreamlike feel to the scene.

This guy here is nerdier and less attractive than his counterpart on the left, and is also wearing what looks like a school uniform. He could be her classmate, evidenced by his line "I will make you mine now,” where 'you' is 'kimi', giving a feeling of closeness. Her reply of "N-no" would sound objecting and defiant, judging by the creeped out look on her face as he grabs her by the waist. There's more shading here, bringing more attention to the characters, and the girl is noticeably more full-bodied than the one on the left. The dark background highlights the uncomfortable and borderline rapey undercurrent of the scene.

So, what do we learn from all this? Apparently, women prefer to fantasize about power dynamics in erotic manga, while guys just want to see hot girls with big tits get fucked. The differences in shading make it so the left seems to idealize the scenario itself while the right focuses on the girl more than anything. Of course, that's not always the case; this is just how I chose to interpret it and it'll be interesting to see what you guys think about this. Let us know in the comments!
