I can’t really say I’m a big sports video game fan. I played some football games with my cousins when I was younger, and I did really enjoy the Mario basketball game on the DS, Mario Hoops 3-on-3, but I still can’t say I’m a really big fan of those types of games on their own. Yeah, if you give it some abilities like the Mario game, I can find some fun in it, but it’s still not something I’ll go out of my way to buy. But hey, maybe that can all change with a Blue Lock video game, or at least something that’s close to it.
With its announcement being shown at The Game Awards, Rematch is a soccer based video game created by the team behind Sifu. It’s not like the game play showed off any super crazy and epic superhuman shots like you’d see in Blue Lock. But with the game being developed by the Sifu team, I wouldn’t be surprised if we get some really cool plays and unique interactions. With the game giving off a more personal vibe with having a third person camera view instead of the top down view we’re used to when it comes to sports games, could be the small change that overall makes a big difference. And I’m not going to act like there’s not already an epic soccer anime game that people can already pick up and play. Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions is an epic sports anime, with super fire kick shots, like Blue Lock has. But, it’s based on an IP that I feel like many people in the US don’t know or care about.
This might not be the gateway drug to sports video games, like how Yowamushi Pedal was my gateway drug into sports anime. But I’m interested to see how this game develops and grows.
What do you think about Rematch? Do you enjoy sports games? Are you a fan of Captain Tsubasa? Tell us in the comments.
