For some reason Grand Theft Auto doesn't hit like it used to for me. When I was a kid my parents would never get me any GTA soI could only play them at a friend's or cousin's house, and even then I got in trouble if they ever found out. GTA V can still be fun and the level of attention to detail is amazing and all, but after eight years and countless other sandbox games putting their own twists on the formula GTA III started it's made me miss the smaller scales and cartoony aesthetics of the PS2 era GTAs. So when Rockstar announced they're bringing GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas to modern systems with enhanced graphics I was more hyped than when GTA V was first revealed. 

Then I remembered the whole Resident Evil 4 VR fiasco and how that was "updated for modern audiences" by having content removed. Considering RE 4 came out after San Andreas, the most recent game in this collection, and how GTA is famously controversial for its raunchy humor, it's possible there could be a lot of "updating" going on. 

Hell, you can already see one non-sexual example of censorship in the reveal trailer. The character Phil Casidy is a redneck arms dealer and Second Amendment fanatic who appears in GTA III, Vice City and the PSP spin-offs. In the original Vice City he wore a shirt with the confederate flag on it (left), but he can be briefly spotted in the trailer at the 34 second mark sporting a generic skull shirt instead (right), as you can see below.

But I'm not here to discuss flags, I'm more concerned over whether the beeg American teeteez will make the cut. People have been calling the series misogynistic ever since GTA III let you bang hookers and kill them to get your cash back, and if Resident Evil 4 couldn't even get away with an upskirt scene in today's climate I dread to think what will happen to GTA. Will there even be hookers? What about strip clubs? Or any of the missions related to porn? The bit in SA where CJ has to dress as a gimp? Beating people up with dildos? Dating? Hot coffee?  

Still, one thing GTA is known for is using hot women in each game's loading screens and cover art. III has Misty, VC has the twins and SA has Rochell'le, all of whom appear on the cover and marketing for the remastered collection. Maybe that could be a good sign, but hold on to your older copies for now just in case.
