Another otaku landmark is at risk. The shrine gate from the cute and moe anime Lucky Star has collapsed. Also known as a torii gate, it was originally built during the Meiji period, as was one of the oldest in the Kanto region. It was rebuilt 45 years ago, but recently fell, even smashing up a car on its way down. We're told the driver was 'startled'. Was the driver in the car at the time? August 12th, 10:40 AM, an adult possibly soiled themselves in their car.
In Lucky Star, the miko twins Tsukasa and Kagami Hiiragi work here. Due to the popularity of the series, otaku have made numerous trips to the Washinomiya shrine, bringing in huge tourism revenue for the area.
While it was rebuilt in 1973 years ago, and saw an inspection 10 years ago, the people who saw it noted that it looked run down in recent times. The area looks completely different without the famous torii gate to frame the place. There's some good news, however. It's already being rebuilt, and with concrete foundations! The Hiiragi twins better enjoy their time off for now, they'll be back on the clock in due time.
