The Rise Of Reading Bad Texts
By WakeUpSnooze • 3 months ago

Creepy and overly sexual texts have been around for forever, but nowadays it seems like everyone online is using them for clout and popularity points thanks to the current reaction meta on YouTube. Several subreddits now contain a ton of text content that shows horrendously bad conversations. These are often taken from dating apps and show the worst that humanity has to offer in terms of written communication. Obviously a good bit are probably faked, but it's depressing nonetheless to think that any of them are real. A majority show some downbad dude sending heinously wild messages off the bat and I have to admit overtime I've become a bit self-conscious.

My text game is pretty shitty. Not because of what I say, rather because I often fail to remember to say anything at all. However this shit makes me nervous. Trying to date online is already an emotionally-draining hellscape. Considering the idea that someone may take a picture of a poorly executed flirting attempt and farm it for internet social credit is a bit demotivating to me. On the bright side, personal information is usually left out of these posts. But hey if you anger the wrong person and have a public dating profile that isn't left barren, they can easily make a damning post that puts a little too much data (pictures, location, age) in front of too many eyes for my liking. Obviously a lot of the time the dude's message is so inappropriate I don't exactly feel sorry for them. On the other hand it seems like the fear of saying something to piss someone off and turning into a viral internet controversy while attempting to date has become a very real possibility.

Whoah put the phone away, you're making me nervous.

One thing is for sure: the dating game is ever-changing and American singleness is on the rise. Though hey maybe that's just correlation not causation. Have you noticed how often these conversations go viral on social media? Have you ever been accused of sending a creepy or off-putting text? Have you ever received a terrible message yourself? Muster your courage, do your best to send a carefully crafted text, and hope you don't end up in several YouTubers' cringe compilations next week in the comments below!
