Sticky Fingers and a Golden Experience: A preview of the upcoming season of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
By Yung Namahage • 5 years ago

In 2012, the popularity of Hirohiko Araki’s long-running shonen epic JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure skyrocketed due to its amazing and faithful anime adaptation from David Production. Whenever a new season of the anime begins, a new horde of fans flock to the show to see what all the fuss is about, and if everything really is a JoJo reference or not. And with the long-awaited fifth part finally beginning in just under two weeks, many will see that it was worth the wait.

For the uninitiated, JJBA: Vento Aureo, AKA Golden Wind, takes place in Italy. Set in 2001, two years after the previous part Diamond is Unbreakable, high school student Giorno Giovanna (or GioGio, if you will) has a dream: a world where the mafia are kind like the gangster that rescued him during his childhood and no longer sell drugs to innocent kids. To achieve this noble goal, he joins the gang Passione, in order to rise through the ranks and become a “Gang-Star” while changing the mafia from the inside. However, things are rarely straightforward in the JoJo universe, so Giorno and his newfound gangster friends have a long and dangerous road filled with dangerous and unusual enemies ahead of them.  Be prepared for some of the greatest stand abilities and fight scenes in the whole manga, which David Productions will no doubt do justice to with their slick animation.

The gang Giorno joins is probably the best group of protagonists in the series, featuring a host of characters with brilliant and memorable designs, personalities and stands, as well as a team synergy even the Stardust Crusaders didn’t pull off as well. This group of fan favourites include the chilled-out Guido Mista; whose Sex Pistols can redirect bullets in mid-air, headstrong Narancia Ghirga; a dude that looks like a lady and possesses a stand in the form of a miniature fighter jet named Aerosmith (get it? Cos he’s a trap?), thoughtful but quick tempered Pannacotta Fugo; who melts faces with the extremely deadly Purple Haze, as well as tall goth tsundere Leone Abbachio and his ability to replay events from the past like a TV remote with Moody Blues. Last but not least is my personal favourite; bossman Bruno Bucciarati; who possesses a unique knack for detecting lies as well the stand Sticky Fingers, which can create zippers for traversal before bidding “arrivederci” to his foes. If the heroes are this wild, wait until you see the villains.

While the first three parts of JoJo are known for their casts of muscular heroes and villains. DiU showed a gradual shift to a more lean, toned down art style, whereas VA’s characters are the slimmest and most feminine in the series so far. The aforementioned stands, fight scenes and great characters, plus awesome story arcs, a few key returning characters, Araki’s unique art style and a main villain with a stand that makes even Dio and The World seem reasonable make it no wonder why Vento Aureo was recently voted the best part in Japanese fan survey. More importantly, new anime = more fans = more fanart = more hentai, so we at doujins.com are expecting a rise in JoJo themed adult comics in the coming year. Erotic artists, you know what you have to do starting October 5.
