Stellar Blade Finally Sees Release Date
By WakeUpSnooze • 2 months ago

New State of Play means a new round of gaming news to shift through. Something that caught my eye, or rather my memory, was Stellar Blade when the devs dropped a fresh gameplay trailer showcasing a meaty six minutes of content. Why do I say my memory was jogged? Because this game was originally announced back in fucking 2019 under the name Project Eve. This is the Korean title with the gorgeous MC boasting a bodacious ass and appealing combat. Back all those years ago it caught the world by storm and Sony fans were popping off during the announcement. The anticipation is nearing its end as the video sets a release date of April 26, 2024. Of course here's the trailer for the interested to watch themselves:

It’s no doubt that there’s some nice shiny shit to look at there. But I have to be honest, my hype has dissipated over the course of five whole years. I’ve lived through enough of these announcements where a game is showcased, the crowd goes fucking wild, and then updates are so slim and take so long that the hype dies out, it performs okay in sales, and after a few weeks of release it’s forgotten about. The first game that came to my mind was Black Myth: Wukong. Announced in 2020, that game also took the internet by storm when a badass twelve minute trailer stole the show. Then years passed and I forgot it even existed. I had to double check and see if it was released yet or not. On the bright side nope it’s still in the tank and it’s planned for a debut this year in August. My question is, will it go over well after being dark for so long? A good game should be a good game no matter when it comes out, but I have to wonder if teasing games 4-5 years in advance is simply too long for the hype train to continue running or at least running at maximum efficiency (unless you’re GTA or Elder Scrolls). I want to give the devs some slack this time since I’m sure humanity’s Covid-19 arc delayed a ton of progress. I just hope announcing titles THAT far in advance doesn’t become an industry norm.

I still plan to wait for reviews before considering picking this one up. State of Play hype can be a dangerous drug. I still remember when everyone thought Call of Duty 17 (or whatever it was) was going to offer a compelling single player campaign like the older entries based on an admittedly action-packed trailer. Did you watch the State of Play? Are you planning to buy Stellar Blade? Do some games announce themselves too early and kill their own marketing?
