SPY x FAMILY fans have been eating a full course meal this season with the currently airing season and the upcoming movie. Code White obviously plans to feast on Christmas crowds and instill some family values into the holiday with a planned release date of December 22nd. In preparation for the movie’s launch it seems that someone had the thought “hey doesn’t Yor kinda look and fight like a Japanese Chun-Li?” and thus more plans to drum up hype were created. Earlier this morning Capcom uploaded a special trailer showing a fight scene between the two ladies and promoted the upcoming collaboration between the series.

The event is scheduled to start on January 9th and will feature select collab items in Street Fighter 6. Judging from the trailer it should be safe to say that a Yor skin for Chun-Li is already in the works. It better be as so far Capcom’s past collaborations, mainly the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles one, have been criticized for focusing too much on the Player Avatars and not the fighters themselves. I’m afraid I’m also part of that crowd. Being able to dress up my guy as a Ninja Turtle is okay, but since you don’t actually fight with your avatars in real online matches, most of the time it’s pointless and I don’t even see it. I want my boy Dee Jay to look like a turtle, not Snooze Man you feel me? He’s the one I’m constantly seeing on the screen during battle. Considering how much Chun-Li got the spotlight in this trailer, I hope that clearly indicates a shift that most of these upcoming items will be for the fighters and avatar customization will take a backseat. Either way I’ll be peeping what items come into fruition in the shop come January. 

These days I’m becoming less and less surprised by what series collab, though I have to say this took me by surprise. After TMNT I suppose anything is on the board for Street Fighter 6, and I merely hope they do the SPY x FAMILY designs justice by including them in a meaningful way.
