Sakura Wars Returns With New Anime
By Yung Namahage • 4 years ago

Earlier this year, Sega announced a new iteration in the highly lauded Sakura Wars series, to much fanfare. Project Sakura Wars (working title) is the first main game in the series since 2005, and now the alternate history tactical RPG/dating sim will be hitting a new generation with its first anime series since 2000.

Sanzigen are not only producing the game's intro cutscene but a new television anime inspired by the game, directed by Manabu Ono (Sword Art Online: Alicization). Sakura Wars veteran composer Kohei Tanaka will once again be scoring the music, and the game's voice cast will also return, including Ayane Sakura (Arisa Ayase in Love Live!), Saori Hayami (Yumeko Jabami in Kakegurui), Michie Tomizawa (Linna Yamazaki in Bubblegum Crisis), Maaya Uchida (Yuki Yoshino in Food Wars!), Ayaka Fukuhara (Lugh in Trinity Seven) and Hibiku Yamamura (Architect in Frame Arms Girl. The story of Project Sakura Wars involves an alternate version of early 20th century Japan, where mecha exist alongside magic as humanity wages war against demons. It's not yet known how, or if, the story of the anime will be changed from that of the game, but we do know that the anime will be released in the same year as the game's western release: 2020. Which of the two are you more hyped for? Let us know below!
