Man this season has a lot of anime to offer. Whether you’re interested in some returning series like Attack on Titan or Dr. Stone, or you’re looking to pick up some entirely new ones like Horimiya or… SK8 The Infinity which people said was actually decent somehow. Personally I had to pick up Redo of Healer due to the surrounding controversy about it. Basically if you don’t know it’s a revenge fantasy anime where a dude who was completely used and abused gets a chance to go back and “redo” his life in a way that he ends up with more power than his targets and thus can enact his revenge on them. Sex is a big part of said revenge strategy according to the light novel readers so I was already bracing for censorship impact. These days even when a company or studio promises to not censor shit they usually do anyway at least to some degree.

Much to my dismay I watched the first episode and there was a sex scene but it was the tamest shit ever. No boobs, no ass, no nothing pretty much. The fucking was “hinted at” but not displayed or shown. “Well, that’s to be expected at this point” I said to myself. Then a few days passed. I go back to one of my anime sites again, and what the fuck do I see? Redo of Healer Episode 1 Uncensored Version. Hold up nobody told me about this! I watch the uncensored version and hot damn it’s like it’s a new show. Boobs flying out, maids getting fucked, ass in your face, check and make sure the kids are asleep cause this is big boy time. Sure it wasn’t quite on the level of a full out hentai but damn it was going close. Apparently the studio is making two versions, a censored one and an uncensored one to broadcast on AT-X. AT-X is a Japanese anime television network that is known for broadcasting uncensored content for those wilder anime like Elfen Lied and High School DxD. So, point being it looks like this series may be a faithful adaptation after all.

At the end of the day only readers of the source material will truly know and appreciate what’s left the same and what has been changed slightly or entirely, outside of avid anime fans who do the research. At the bare minimum though I’m glad to see that the studio isn’t shying away from sex espeically in these trying times. As we all know sex and violence are treated quite differently though, so it will be interesting to see if they keep this kind of raunchy action when things get a bit more… uh, “forceful”. Good on them for at least starting off with a promising beginning.

So far so good with this season of anime, I’m having a blast so far. Even if Redo of Healer completely falls apart by the end at least we have plenty of other series to be excited for.
