Reclaim Reality Won't Be a Reality
By ImJustThatKinky • 4 years ago

Ayy I'm back. It's Imaginary. Kinky's great great grandma died again for a week. Carry on.

Here’s my second bit of news for the week, and in typical modern news fashion, it’s depressing. Frequent visitors of the blog may remember this game from an article that Kinky put out a few months ago back in early March. His article mainly talked about the apparent uselessness of adding partial voice acting to games but excluding said acting from the sex scenes and he used Reclaim Reality as an example of this pitfall. At the time of that article the project did not reach its desired goal for Patreon funding and announced a break to regroup. Well, it seems he may have been on to something as the project has recently been officially shut down.

Then again, probably not. The team behind the project released a detailed report listing the exact reasons and shortcomings that resulted in the termination of this game’s development. From scheduling issues with the artist to contradicting niches/genres for the target audience, it’s all there. If you’re an upcoming developer who wants to learn from this failure or a sick fuck who loves groveling in the disappointment of others, you can read the full document here.

Damn, I forgot how hype this made me.

As a yuri fan myself, this hurts my soul. Yuri games are hard enough to find as it is, and good yuri games are needles in the hayfield. I for one was excited at the prospect of something a little unconventional popping up in the yuri market, however it appears other fans didn’t share my sentiment. Regardless, I must admit that the whole partial voice acting decision certainly left me underwhelmed when the demo released. In the face of these other problems though I doubt it would of changed anything. Rest in peace, Reclaim Reality.

Did Kinky’s warning about partial voice acting carry some weight? Have you ever had your eye on a promising project that collapsed? Let me know in the comments below.
