MangaGamer Moves to GOG After Steams Removal Crisis
By ImJustThatKinky • 5 years ago

H-game and visual novel publisher MangaGamer has had enough and is in the process of moving their games to CDProjektRED’s GOG or Good Old Games.

After the massive visual novels, h-games, and games with erotic content removal problem that’s been going on over at Steam, MangaGamer has announced their move to CDProjecktRED’s DRM-free storefront, Good Old Games. This is was MangaGamer had to say:

With the viability of Steam as a retail platform for Visual Novels thrown into question by recent threats from Valve, MangaGamer has begun pursuing other potential retail outlets for itsproducts and now joins the catalog of GOG! MangaGamer's PR Director, John Pickett, had this to say:

"This opportunity couldn't have come at a better time. We had been speaking with GOG prior to recent events about adding visual novels as a genre to their retail platform, and with Valve now threatening the livelihoods of visual novel developers everywhere, it's a huge relief to see GOG opening their doors to these games."

Now there are still MangaGamer titles on Steam but this is the start of them branching away from Steam. The games that MangaGamer has released on GOG are eden* and Higurashi: When They Cry. MangaGamer is in talks with GOG on bringing in more games from their library, games that have recently been removed from Steam without warning. PR Director, John Pickett says:

Steam has now proven that it's growing unreliable for small and independent developers, so we are very grateful to have the next biggest retailer in the PC market welcoming Visual Novels with open arms and an eye for quality. In the long run we hope to transition our full Steam catalog over to GOG, and we hope other developers will consider reaching out to them too. We want fans everywhere to always have a means of enjoying these great titles."

With the stigma around adult centered games growing more tiring and problematic, how many other erotic game developers are going to seek alternative places to sell their games. Steam is a very large platform and a well known one for selling games, but that seem to only be true to games that don’t explore the realms of sexuality. Sex sell, but not on Steam.

You can purchase eden* and Higurashi: When They Cry on GOG.com.
