Lazarus Is Finally Here!

The Cowboy Bebop of 2025 is finally out. With the anime airing on Adult Swim and releasing first with an English dub, this show is really trying to capture the old Toonami feel. And it’s doing a good job at that. But is Lazarus the spiritual successor of Cowboy Bebop that it was hyped up to be? Well, that’s hard to say with just two episodes, but I can say that I’m enjoying it for what it is so far.

With the show revolving around a drug that will kill everyone who's taken it in 30 days, and let me tell you it’s, ALOT OF PEOPLE!!! The setup is already kind of interesting, and already adding some stakes early on. And if you’re into The Suicide Squad premise of a group of criminals becoming the heroes of the story, well then this show might peak your interest. But these characters don’t seem as corrupt and evil as those groups of misfits were. But at least this anime has a higher chance of being better than The Suicide Squad anime.

The characters so far are likable, and I can see them growing on me when learning more about their backstories and what got them in this situation in the first place. But the funny thing is, we already know that this is trying to recapture the magic that Cowboy Bebop had, but for some reason, the animation and art style isn’t hitting the same. The animation is good don’t get me wrong. But I’m almost about to say that Cowboy Bebop has this sort of charm that is too hard to replicate.

But I’m totally down with seeing them try, and if they succeed or not. This was supposedly funded by Adult Swim themselves, and they wanted something with a more serious tone. I haven’t seen this serious tone that they speak of so far, but it keeps my hopes high for the future plot points and reveals in the next coming episodes.

Seemed that the show had more hype around it when it was first announced and when that trailer dropped compared to now when the actual episodes are dropping. I wouldn’t be surprised if on like episode 10, the show completely flips on its head and gets everyone talking about it. Who knows at this point, but I’m enjoying it for what it is so far. See you, city hero.

Are you watching Lazarus? Do you think Lazarus will be the modern day Cowboy Bebop? Are you going to watch this dub or sub? Tell us in the comments.

If this was meant to be the modern-day Cowboy Bebop, then they fumbled big time by not casting Gianni Matragrano as the MC in the English dub.

I think Lazarus has a lot of potential, but it’s clearly more of a slow burn than Bebop. Actually, I think the show is going for a different tone and is pulling from diff inspirations than Bebop and the comparison isn’t super apt, lol

I may or may not give this a chance. The little animation I've seen is good, but calling it a modern-day Cowboy Bebop makes me less interested in it since I've never cared for Bebop. Just could never get into it, never understood the massive love for it, and consider it overhyped to the point of disappointment.

Bebop, not really. Lazarus feels too forced compared to Bebop. Closer to a conspiracy laden version of Bacanno, maybe.

As much I would love for a Midquel of Cowboy Bebop, where it's before the final 3 Episodes where Edward leaves, I don't think it's gonna happen..
