Did You Get Valentine's Day Chocolates?
By WakeUpSnooze • 2 months ago

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner my friends. In reality, I only figured this out thanks to a V-day focused episode from Hokkaido Girls Are Super Adorable! this week. In the latest installment, the girls are busy focusing on cooking away in an attempt to whip up a bunch of tasty treats for the ones they care about. It seems that Valentine’s Day operates a bit different in Japan, or at least it was represented in a different way by this production, as the girls were producing chocolate for just about anyone they thought was cool (friends, classmates, actual love interests) whereas in America you pretty much restrict your candy giving to desired or current partners. Shit kinda made me appreciate the Japanese style of celebrating Valentine’s Day because you know Snooze’s ass stayed sweetless every year.

My school absolutely celebrated Valentine's Day, but you’d never know it judging by my empty ass desk. I’m not necessarily complaining as my “rizz” back then was even more nonexistent than its current status. At the same time you can guess a teenager with no relationship experience was pretty sad and salty that the only candy he had to speak of those four years was from his mom each time. Reminiscing on my own experience thanks to this episode, I wondered what proportion of the general public of America typically receive and give treats on the holiday. Back then it felt like nearly two-thirds of the school participated and the majority of the student body got candy. That could 100% be memory bias thanks to my jealousy in past times though. In reality I wouldn’t be surprised if only one third of the school participated and it was more common to not worry about handing out candy bags or being the recipient of one yourself. I keep mentioning high school cause in my experience the Valentine’s Day tradition is dead after that point. The only events I’ve seen occurring after that were people exchanging gifts and treats to their SO during college or work. But at that point it’s more to commemorate their love which has already happened, not to confess to someone new.

Welp... Hershey's it is.

One thing is for sure, I’m once again in the Singles Awareness Day crowd this year. So lucky they made a holiday dedicated to the good struggling people like myself. And it’s so easy to join in on the fun. Just be lonely, together! What’s your experience with Valentine’s Day? Did you dish out or obtain candy at your school? Are you more of a Singles Awareness Day kinda person? Crank up the oven, bake some chocolates, and eat that batch up yourself in the comments below!
