Deku is Cancelled? Is the Future Pro Hero a Racist?

Tomorrow willl see the release of the highly-anticipated anime crossover brawler Jump Force. Shonen fans can't wait to get their hands on it, but so-called "videogame "journalists"" are once again attempting to find issues that aren't there by accusing Izuku Midoriya of racism.

A preview showed a pre-fight intro cutscene where the My Hero Academia protagonist squares off against Dragonball's Piccolo, which some people are seeing as offensive.

It seems that people are interpreting this to say that the wannabe hero assumes Piccolo is a villain because of the color of his skin. Nevermind the fact that non-standard skin colors are common in Deku's world (one of his classmates is literally pink after all) but Piccolo was originally a villain in his series, and hence was designed to look like a villain. He may have had a change of heart since then and become more heroic, but his appearance doesn't exactly scream "good guy" to most people, including Deku in this instance.

Or it could just be the fault of Bandai Namco, providing a less-than accurate translation. Either way, most of the tweets shown in the original article are clearly joking, yet said "journalist" is attempting to make this non-issue a much bigger problem than it actually is.

Do you think Deku is a racist or is this just being misinterpreted? Are you planning to pick up Jump Force on release? Let us know in the comments!

It's piccolo's eyes that make him look like a villain, not the color of the skin. Big eyes if you're good, shifty eyes if you're bad. That's the basics of most manga. Can't believe people make stupid racist comments all the time.

i don't think its racist, if you know anything about dragon ball before dragon ball z then you know piccolo was a villain and even though he is a good guy now, he still carries a demon like attitude. its Not Racist, people just reaching farther than piccolo's arm ever could.

It's a "non-issue." Ignore it.

The real villains are the developers for this cash grab called a game. My god those cutscenes were horrendous.

Here too? You got to be kidding me. Piccolo LOOKS like a fucking villain. If you didn't know anything about him and just saw his character design, you'd think he was the villain too. He's DESIGNED to look like a villain. Also, he WAS a villain for a while. Cut the crap. People just want to be angry over something.

piccolo's training is to beat someone half to death and then throw them into a t-rex infested wilderness. fear is justified.

sj journalists are activists first, if they do not spam ism's or ist's they cannot virtue signal crap so ignore and let them go bankrupt since they clickbait to survive.

Misinterpreted, no. Misrepresented, yes. There's also the logical fallacy of calling this "racist". Piccolo is not and never was *human*, much less any specific racial type of *human*. He's *humanoid*, but of a completely different species entirely. Which we only call a 'race' since they are intelligent and capable of social interaction. The correct term would be 'specist' if at all.

Piccolo WAS a villain and is frequently mistaken or assumed to be one on a regular basis in his native show! the only people calling this racist are either oversensitive idiots or dont know anything about the source material.
