Could Project Eve be the Next Nier Automata?
By Yung Namahage • 2 years ago

Sony's PlayStation showcase last week was full of bangers. A sequel to Insomniac's Spider-Man featuring Venom, a standalone Wolverine game and God of War: Ragnarok were just a few highllights from the stream, but out of all the new and original IPs, one trailer had me hooked more than anything.

Project Eve was originally announced way back in 2019 and has had a few bits and pieces of information since its reveal, but the latest trailer has really got people talking about it. It's developed by SHIFT UP Corporation, a Korean studio known for making the popular gacha game Destiny Child. SHIFT UP is led by Hyung-tae Kim, the artist behind the Magna Carta and Blade & Souls series, and Project Eve for sure looks like a game helmed by an artist. Everything about the trailer is stylish as all hell, from the flashy combat to the main character's rounded ass; the gorgeous post-apocalyptic environments and the striking monster designs that look like a weird blend of  Dark Souls' twisted creatures and some of Resident Evil's stranger bioweapons, with some of Bayonetta's angels thrown in for good measure.

As if the ruined-cities-overrun-by-nature aesthetics and thicc ass protagonist didn't already invite comparisons to Nier Automata, even the story has a few parallels. The titular Eve (who may be an android) is the last surviving member of paratrooper squad deployed to fight a strange race of monsters called NA-tives, long after humanity was defeated and expelled from Earth. People are even going so far as to accuse Eve of being a blatant rip-off of Nier Automata. All Yoko Taro, the creator of Nier had to say about Project Eve was that he planned to buy it.

On a gameplay level it looks to have a parrying mechanic similar to Sekiro and a dodge system something like Bayonetta's Witch Time, but I'm sure there's so much more that we've yet to see over the coming months. A release date has yet to be announced, but we do know that it'll be coming to the PS5 at least.

I'm definitely keeping an eye on this game, but what about you? Do you think Project Eve a ripoff of Nier Automata? Or does it look like it'll stand on its own? Let us know what you think below!
