An Interview with Revolverwing
By Kasaix • 5 years ago

Kasaix: Hello fine boys and girls of Doujins! I have another incredibly talented artist with me, the one and only Revolverwing! I’ve only recently come across this artist, and immediately fell in love with the art. After sitting through much of an hours-long Picarto stream, I knew I had to talk to the artist, and here we are. For the record, I asked before the stream, but afterwards, I knew it was the right call.

That all said, thanks for hanging out, Revolverwing. How’s it going for you?

Revolverwing: Hello there Kasaix, I'm doing fine here, just enjoying the weekend.

Kasaix: I hear that. Weekends are our gift for surviving the week.

Let's start from the top then. What made you get into art? Did you see a cool picture or cartoon and want to draw it yourself?

Revolverwing: As a kid, there's nothing much to do at home, and we can't afford toys, so I just pick up a pencil or crayon and scribble on stuff. Also like most kids my age at the time I am enamored by the anime style for its overall expressiveness.

Kasaix: A childhood hobby you kept up with as you grew older, that's nice.

Did you take any art classes, or are you self-taught?

Revolverwing: Just basic art class at middle school, but most of the things I learned is self-taught, as we didn't do human drawings at school, not that I expected it.

For the self-taught stuff I look at how other artists did it online and I honed my skills from there.

Kasaix: Online seems like the best place to learn, a number of artists have said that they learned online.

What is your favorite subject to draw, as far as characters and situations?

Revolverwing: Favorite subject to draw huh? I say smut overall, would like to do some day-to-day "mundane" pics loosely based on what I've seen irl but due to the lack of skill on that part I have to do some practices offscreen.

Kasaix: I'm sure you'll be able to pull it off eventually.

What about favorite characters?

Revolverwing: Pokemon NPCs mostly. As I got burned out from the recent games I shifted my focus to Fire Emblem ladies. Will still draw Pokemon stuff, just not frequently. There are also various characters from other series, but that would be too long to list.

If i got tired temporarily of drawing FE girls I'll do something else for a while.

Kasaix: Nice choices. Pokemon and Fire Emblem girls look great.

Where do you get ideas for your projects, and what's your process when drawing them?

Revolverwing: Mostly thanks to my patreons on discord where they would share cool pics that might catch my attention. Sometimes they would outright suggest ideas for me to draw, or I ask for it myself if there's some mood I'm into.

As for processes, it depends on the drawing itself:

If it's a single pic, i'll lay out the composition on paper, then draw it digitally (I used to scan my sketches, but no longer).

I'll have to think out the possible variants for a pic if any. Sometimes I would even made up the scenario and the background of the pic as I continue drawing.

If it’s a comic the process will be even longer, and I even have someone to proofread my story and composition.

Kasaix: Interesting! You put a lot of thought and effort into each project. I also like it when creators interact with their patrons on such a level, it makes the support worthwhile.

What do you consider your best work of art, something you're completely proud to show off?

Revolverwing: I don't have a clear answer as my views on my works could change over time, but for now it's the summer tiki x morrigan titfucking, F!corrin and F!robin at the beach, and deepthroating athena.

Kasaix: Nice choices all around. All the great fetishes are on display here.

Revolverwing: Thank you ^_^

Kasaix: No no, thank you.

What is a dream project of yours? Something you feel you must work on.

Revolverwing: I have some doujin ideas I'm working on now for fun, it's a secret for now but I hope people will enjoy it.

Kasaix: I'm sure I, and many others, will.

Let’s wrap this up, shall we? I don’t want to take up too much of your time. Do you have any final words for your fans?

Revolverwing: Oh I was expecting more questions, but if you want to interview me in the future to ask more questions feel free to.

Learn how to take criticisms and pick on subjects you're weak at drawing and practice working on them. You'll be able to develop your own style over time as you practice drawing, but don't uglify your own artstyle out of spite or for some agenda.
Just keep it fun.

Kasaix: I'd also love to talk to you again in the future! I like to keep these interviews general and concise, not too long and interesting.

Important lessons. People can take criticism the wrong way really quickly. Ego and pride are good traits, but too much can just ruin everything. Remembering to have fun is important.

Revolverwing: That's the core of it mainly.
