A Review of Galaxy Girls
By ImJustThatKinky • 6 years ago

A short time ago in a galaxy near you, in fact the very same one you’re in....

I spent my time playing and drawing up points to review the popular visual novel game, Galaxy Girls instead of using it to pray that the new Star Wars is actually good. So if the movie sucks you can go ahead and blame me. Just know that at least now you know more about Galaxy Girls in exchange.

Galaxy Girls has been developed and published by BurstRay Games. It was released on October 12, 2017. It has pretty minimal requirements, so anyone not using a toaster to run their games should be able to get it running smoothly.  The game focuses on the yuri genre and is set in deep space.

Art/Audio

The art and design are, without a doubt, a shining pinnacle of this game. Mr.Clean himself would be proud of the environments, character portraits, and UI. Audio’s in for a misdemeanor. None of the soundtrack I discovered really stood out. I will say it kept the space narrative consistent with the sound direction, I just didn’t find any track necessarily appealing to listen to. After a while they got on my nerves a bit, but that’s subjective.

Gameplay

What the fuck were you thinking Gameplay? Since it’s a visual novel, the only solid gamer input is through choices. Unlike a TellTale game, your choices do actually matter and impact the game. The problem is they impact that shit way too much. In order to get passed the first ending where everyone dies horribly, you need to make a distinct set of choices that corresponds to a character. If you screw up a single choice, well fuck you everybody’s dead. This wouldn’t be too much of an issue except that it’s very difficult to tell what responses influence who. For example, in one choice you need to decide whether to report a stowaway girl to command or keep quiet. You would think this choice influences her route, but somehow this affects every single member of the crew. How do they even know what I chose? I was alone in the room. Are they on some NSA wiretap shit? Even when you are in a scenario that you expect to influence a girl (blaming her vs blaming yourself for a mistake), the responses are usually generic to the point of not knowing if a choice was positive or negative. I shouldn’t need a fucking guide to get different plotlines in a choice-based game.

Wait what? I did? .... When?

H-Scenes

“Alright baby this is the shit I’ve been waiting for! After spending an hour going through the setup and learning about the characters, it’s time to pop off!” - A Guy Who Thought

Unfortunately, he’s in a for a rude awakening. In a game about yuri, I expect the yuri to be the best part. Somehow it was allowed for a solo scene with the main character to have two backgrounds and go on for 2-3 minutes, but have the actual yuri endings last 30 seconds and sometimes not even fuck the girl. What kind of shit is that? *LIGHT SPOILER WARNING* In one ending you discover that a crew member is a psychopath who drugs you and kills the rest of the crew. Nice! That has room for some interesting sex! Except all she does is fondle you for a bit and TALK about how she’s gonna make you a sex toy before the game ends for that route. I swear, who allocates these budgets?

Why do I have a choice here, but not when I'm knee-deep in yuri relations?

Despite some harsh shortcomings, the game can still be an enjoyable experience. I’d give it a light 3/5 for the astonishing visuals, consistent atmosphere, and decently individualized characters. If you’d like to pick it up, follow this link to Nutaku to learn more about it. They have a wide variety of downloadable hentai games. If you’ve played Galaxy Girls, tell us what you thought of it in the comments!
