A Deep Dive into Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer with ttrop
By Kasaix • 5 years ago

Kasaix: Hello, friends of Doujins! Recently, I’ve decided to take a closer look at some of our favorite works with some of our favorite artists. A critical eye cast upon these works by very creative and talented people, judging their story, characters, and art style and, where necessary, seeing where some interesting changes would have been made by these very artists.

First up is our friend ttrop, and we’re taking a look at Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer, also known as Samidare of the Stars in Japan. The original run lasted from April 2005 through November 2010. The series was written and illustrated by Satoshi Mizukami. The synopsis of the series is as follows:

“The world is in mortal peril. Sir Noi Crezant, the Lizard Knight, has been sent to gain the aid of the great warrior Amamiya Yuuhi in hopes of finding the Princess Samidare and protecting the planet from the incredible "Biscuit Hammer" poised to crack the Earth in two. Unfortunately Yuuhi wants no part of it, and the Princess doesn't prove to be the shining "hero of justice" role model that Noi had hoped for. “

So, let’s get started. Before we look at the more finer details of the series, what’s your overall take on Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer?

ttrop: I loved it very underrated manga that needs more love

it has a fun take in powers and character connections with great comedy

Kasaix: I see. I skimmed through it a bit myself and it looks really cool.

Let's talk about the story. At first glance, it's a knight rushing get help to save the princess who will save the world. What's your take on it?

ttrop: the story may seem like that but the twist is the princess herself wants to end the world with her own powers, not to mention princess is actually the strongest person in the manga so the manga story does great stuff to keep her out of the fights

she can basically one shot all the evil golems

Kasaix: Haha! That's the best twist ever. Are you happy with the story, or are there a few things you would change?

ttrop: I love the story i would not change a thing but the eye golems i might want to change their looks

every time they are killed they come back with 1 more and and stronger

but some of them look great while others look quite weak

oh and 1 more thing

this is the artist one of the early work so even though I love the art

the panty shots

even tho they are just there for a gag

and not for sexual thing

but a bit more detail in there would not have hurt

Lol

Kasaix: Haha nice. That brings us to the art. As an artist yourself, I'm sure there's a few comments you have. Changing up the golems so they all look cool, and more detail for the panty shots. Is there anything else you would want to change?

ttrop: no the art style is also the charm point the artist has gone beyond this was one of his earliest mangas and best mangas making it look too sexualized would take the charm out of the manga

Kasaix: I see. You have a fair point there. Let's move on to the characters themselves. What do you make of them? Are they well-rounded interesting characters, or as one-dimensional as the paper they're printed on? As well, do you think they look interesting, or bland?

ttrop: they are one of the best well rounded characters ever to me, all of them have a valid reason and great backstories we learn about them, and even some great twists

there is even a stereotypical guy who fights for justice and that’s his thing

Kasaix: Nice, having well-rounded and interesting characters can make or break a series. What do you think of their appearance? Do they look cool?

ttrop: with all the characters he had to draw, i think they all bring something to the table, my only problem is that there is a fat guy and another character who are bit similar but  they do make a joke out of that as well. but maybe give the fat guy abit more then just be a fat nice guy

with Brock eyes you know the ones

always closed yet can see

Kasaix: Haha! Brock eyes. That gym leader from the Kanto saga of Pokemon.

That covers the general topics of Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer that can be covered without spoiling too much. What are your final thoughts about this series, and what the heck is a "Biscuit Hammer"?

ttrop: people need to read this manga more if they can go out and buy the manga so we can get some good anime, and the biscuit hammer is the hammer that is in space that will end the world if the heroes don't stop the evil magician from activating it.

it is always looming in the sky

kind of like the moon in majora’s mask

Kasaix: Haha! Okay then yes, everyone should take a look at this manga.

Thanks for hanging out again ttrop. Your insight into this series was really quite fascinating.

ttrop: always great talking with you sry if i could not say anything negative about the manga nothing but praise that cuz I love this manga too much

Kasaix: As always, it's my pleasure ^_^

Don't worry about not having negative things to say, this was an objective look at a manga by a very creative artist, precisely what I was going for.

ttrop: thank you
