Who's Reading Sakamoto Days?
By ImJustThatKinky • 1 year ago

Well first, I guess I want to ask all you guys, how many of you actually read Shonen Jump? I know when I was younger I always thought it was cool. But now as an adult, I only read a select few…and when I say select few, I mean only one, and that’s Chainsaw Man, and maybe JojoLAND now. But I have a friend who keeps up with Shonen Jump, and almost read every manga in the magazine. And everytime he talks about it, there's one manga that’s always in his mouth and the one he thinks is the best in the magazine, and that’s Sakomoto Days.

The funny thing is, my friend wasn’t even interested in the series at first, since the main character looked like a goof, and it seemed more like a gag manga, than an action one. But, a few pages later, he was hooked. If I can compare it to anything, it’s like One Punch Man, with the main character not looking like much, but actually being super cool and strong.

Dang, he's actually cool.

Now, I haven’t read any of it, but that’s just from my general impressions on it, and from what my friend has told me. The actual summary of the manga is that of a man name Tarou Sakamoto, who was once considered the greatest hitman of all time. Feared by many, he stood at the top of the underground world until he met and fell in love with a woman. As a result, Sakamoto abandoned his life of crime and now works as a convenience store clerk. Leaving his shady past behind proves more difficult than Sakamoto initially imagined. Many of his former rivals and partners do not believe that he has truly left the business and show up in hopes of taking him out. Barred from killing, Sakamoto must find creative ways to subdue his enemies and prevent them from bringing harm to his family, his store, and the small town he resides in.

The manga covers are pretty cool.

A pretty cool, and interesting premise. I’m still not going to start reading it, with how far behind I am on the series already. But I’m hoping that it gets an anime soon. From the way it looks, I can see a studio like Mappa or A-1 Pictures would pick it up. I would rather Mappa over A-1, since they can be hit or miss, but we’ll see once the time comes.
